یاں لب پہ لاکھ لاکھ سخن اضطراب میں

واں ایک خامشی تری سب کے جواب میں

خط دیکھ کر وہ آئے بہت پیچ و تاب میں

کیا جانے لکھ دیا اُنھیں کیا اضطراب میں

بے بادہ مورگی میں ہوا ذوقؔ جوں مویز

کی توبہ بے وقوف نے ناحق شباب میں

लाख सुख़न इज़्तराब में – शेख़ इब्राहीम ज़ौक़

यां लब पे लाख लाख सुख़न इज़्तराब में

वां एक ख़ामुशी तेरी सब के जवाब में

ख़त देख कर वो आए बहुत पेच ओ ताब में

क्या जाने लिख दिया उन्हें क्या इज़्तराब में

बे-बादा मूरगी में हुआ ज़ौक़ जूं मुवेज़

की तौबा बेवक़ूफ़ ने नाहक़ शबाब में

He was introduced to the court of akbar shah saani (second) and received recognition. He became mentor and ustad to bahadur shah zafar from during his crown prince days.

The poet/lover in extreme agitation keeps pleading to the beloved thousands of times. She is only one thing in answer to all this … silence.

Khat dekh kar vo aaye bahut pech-o-taab1 meN
kya jaane likh diya unheN kya izteraab2 meN   
1.anger and annoyance 2.agitation
The poet has sent her a missive. Normally the beloved would simply ignore such letters or simply answer with a non-commital message, but this time she shows up herself, angry and annoyed. He wonders what he might have written to her in his agitation.

ki tauba5 bevaqoof ne naa-haq6 shabaab7 meN

In his youth the poet swore off wine. There was no justification/rationale for doing this. The result of this was that just like a grape wrinkles into a raisin, the young poet has lost all his fresh looks. If he had imbibed wine, he would have been forever young!
