شکایت ہوتی جاتی ہے ۔ شکیلؔ بدایونی

نمایاں دونوں جانب شانِ فطرت ہوتی جاتی ہے
انہیں مجھ سے مجھے ان سے محبت ہوتی جاتی ہے
۲
مری شامِ الم صبح مسرّت ہوتی جاتی ہے
کہ ہر لحظہ ترے ملنے کی صورت ہوتی جاتی ہے

نگاہیں مضطرب اُترا ہوا چہرہ زباں ساکت
جو تھی اپنی وہی اب اُن کی حالت ہوتی جاتی ہے

نہ کیوں ہوں اِس ادا پر عشق کی خودداریاں صدقے
اُنہیں رودادِ غم سن سن کے حیرت ہوتی جاتی ہے

کہیں رازِ محبت آسماں پر بھی نہ کھل جائے
مجھے آہ و فغاں کرنے کی عادت ہوتی جاتی ہے

محبت ہی میں ملتے ہیں شکایت کے مزے پیہم
محبت جتنی بڑھتی ہے شکایت ہوتی جاتی ہے

شکیلؔ ان کی جدائی میں ہے لطفِ زندگی زائل

न क्यूँ हों इस अदा पर इश्क़ की ख़ुद्दारियाँ सदक़े
उन्हें रूदाद-ए ग़म सुन सुन के हैरत होती जाती है

कहीं राज़-ए मोहब्बत आसमाँ पर भी न खुल जाए
मुझे आह-ओ-फ़ुग़ाँ करने की आदत होती जाती है
६
मोहब्बत ही में मिलते हैं शिकायत के मज़े पैहम
मोहब्बत जितनी बढ़ती है शिकायत होती जाती है
७
शकील उन की जुदाई में है लुत्फ़-ए ज़िंदगी ज़ाइल
नज़र बे-कैफ़ अफ़्सुर्दा तबी’अत होती जाती है

It is the glory of god, a miracle that is emerging on both sides (the lover and the beloved). She is falling in love with him and he with her. This of course, is a very unusual scene in urdu poetic tradition.

Sorrowful eyes, crestfallen looks, stunned silence – her condition is becoming just like mine used to be.

In poetic tradition ‘husn’ is associated with the beloved and ‘ishq’ with the lover/suitor. Conventionally, when the beloved hears the sad story of love of the poet/lover, she does not believe it and/or ignores is. This time, the reaction is different. The ‘ada’ here is the posture/style/gestures of the beloved upon hearing the story of love. Her style is one of amazement at the intensity of love. Why should not the dignity of the poet/lover offer a tribute to this style.

mujhe aah-o-fuGhaaN3 karne ki aadat4 hoti jaati hai 1.secret 2.reveal 3.sighing and wailing 4.habit
Conventionally the poet/lover is extreme sadness sighs and wails, so loudly that they reach the sky. Also, it is traditional for the lover to keep the object of his love hidden so as not malign the reputation of the belovd. He is afraid that he is getting into the habit of sighing and wailing constantly and reaching the skies, these might reveal the secret of his love.

mohabbat jitni baRhti hai shikaa’et hoti jaati hai 1.complaint 2.taste, pleasure 3.again and again
Normally the reaction to a complaint is annoyance, but in love there is pleasure in such complaints. Even as love increases complaints also increase.
