آثارِ  زیست  پھر  سے  نمایاں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

کچھ  قافلے  رواں  سوے  زنداں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

کچھ  آمدِ  بہار  کے  عنواں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

منبر  پہ  شیخ  بزم  میں  پیرِ  مغاں  وہی

کچھ  کاروبار  زیست  کے  آساں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

نیکی  کی  جھونپڑی  میں  دیا  تک  نہ  جل  سکا

اِقلیمِ  اہرمن  میں  چراغاں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

کانٹوں  کا  شکریہ  کہ  اُلجھ  کر  اُنہیں  کے  ساتھ

دو  چار  گُل  بھی  دولتِ  داماں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

کیا  اِنتخابِ  شیخ  کا  پھر  وقت  آ  گیا

کچھ  مومنانِ  جام  سے  پیماں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

مہکی  تھی  زیست  بازوئے  مُلّاؔ  پہ  بھی  کبھی

گیسو  کسی  کے  اِن  پہ  پریشاں  ہوئے  تو  ہیں

चराग़ाँ हुए तो हैँ – आनंद नरायन मुल्ला

आसार-ए ज़ीस्त फिर से नुमायाँ हुए तो हैँ

कुछ क़ाफ़ेले रवाँ सुए ज़िन्दाँ हुए तो हैँ

काले परे उफ़क़ पे नुमयाँ हुए तो हैँ

कुछ आमद-ए बहार के उन्वाँ हुए तो हैँ

मिमबर पे शैख़, बज़्म में पीर-ए मुग़ाँ वही

कुछ कारोबार ज़ीस्त के आसाँ हुए तो हैँ

नेकी की झोँपढि में दिया तक ना जल सका

इक़लीम-ए अहरमन में चराग़ाँ हुए तो हैँ

काँटौँ का शुक्रिया के उलझ कर उन्हिँ के साथ

दो चार गुल भी दौलत-ए दामाँ हुए तो हैँ

क्या इंतेक़ाब-ए शैख़ का फिर वक़्त आ गया

कुछ मोमिनान-ए जाम से पैमाँ हुए तो हैँ

महकी थी ज़ीस्त बाज़ू-ए मुल्ला पे भी कभी

गेसू किसी के इन पे परेशाँ हुए तो हैँ

This was probably written to mark an agreement between the Muslim League and the Indian National Congress.

zindaaN/prison/gallows is probably used here as a symbol of struggle for independence, because such struggle likely leads to the prison. Once again, some signs of life are emerging (agreement between the League and the Congress). Some caravans have courageously turned towards the gallows. The shaiKh and the piir-e-muGhaaN are symbolic of positions of leadership in the League and the Congress. These leaders remain in their respective positions but at least some affairs of life have become a little easier.

The did not even light a lamp in the hut of Truth but there is dazzling illumination in the domain of Falsehood. Here Truth is a metpahor for the real needs of people and Falsehood for political gamesmanship.

do chaar gul bhi daulat-e daamaaN hue to haiN   
Thanks to thorns that tangled up with them, at least some flowers have been gathered in the hem of the robe. Whatever the shortcomings of the agreement, at least some good features appear to be a part of the deal.

At one time mulla, the poet, too had experienced the fragrance of Life. He had experienced happiness and optimism. Now too, the beloved’s fragrant hair are spread on mulla’s shoulders. Once again he is optimistic.
