دل رہینِ سکوتِ ہجراں ہے
حسرتِ دید دے رہی ہے لَو
سرِ مژگاں غمِ چراغاں ہے

بجھ گئے ہیں ردائے شب کے نجوم
چاند کے عکسِ پیرہن سے کہیں
آرہے ہیں پیامِ تازہ و تر
دل کی خاموش انجمن سے کہیں

دامنِ آسماں کا اِک اِک نقش
لحظہ لحظہ بکھرتا جاتا ہے
گھل رہا ہے فضا میں کیفِ الم
دل کو اکثر خیال آتا ہے

روتے روتے حیات گزرے گی

چاندنی اشک بار ہے کب سے

चांद के अक्स-ए पैरहन से कहीं
आ रहे हैं पयाम-ए ताज़ा ओ तर
दिल की ख़ामोश अंजुमन से कहीं

दामन-ए आसमां का एक-एक नक़्श
लहज़ा लहज़ा बिखरता जाता है
घुल रहा है फ़िज़ा में कैफ़-ए अलम
दिल को अक्सर ख़याल आता है

कैसे फ़ुर्क़त की रात गुज़रेगी
रोते रोते हयात गुज़रेगी

तारे लर्ज़ां हैं कहकशां गमगीं
चाँदनी अश्क-बार है कब से
भीगी जाति है चादर-ए महताब

In the twilight of the grey evening
The heart is a captive of the silence of separation
The yearning for your sight gives flame
The tip of the eyelashes are alight with sorrow
Note … the poet is yearning for a sight of the beloved and the beloved could well be social justice.

Stars of the dark sheet of the night have dimmed
Somewhere from reflected spread of the moon on earth
There is a message, fresh and new
From the inner chamber of the heart’s silence
Note … the fresh and new message is that of socialism rising up from the gentle earth from a hitherto silent populace.
