نوجوانانِ مصر کے نام اور فیض احمد فیض کو خراج
تحریر کی ہے خون سے تاریخ مصر کی
فرعونیت کے دور کی بنیاد ہلا دی
سلام کرتا ہوں تم کو خراج دیتا ہوں
ہے فیض نئی نسل کا بھولی ہوی راہ دکھا دی
اور ہیں اب بھی زمانے میں یزید و قیصر
بیٹھے ہیں ابھی تخت پہ فرعون کے بھائی
آزادی کامل کی مکّمل نہیں تحریر
چلے چلو کہ وہ منزل ابھی نہیں آئی

नौजवानान-ए मिस्र के नाम और फ़ैज़ अहमद फ़ैज़ को ख़िराज
तहरीर की है ख़ून से तारीख़ मिस्र की
फ़िरौनीयत के दौर की बुनियाद हिला दी
सलाम करता हुं, तुमको ख़िराज देता हूं
है फ़ैज़ नई नस्ल का भूली हुई राह दिखा दी
और हैं अब भी ज़माने में यज़ीद ओ क़ैसर
बैठे हैं अभी तख़्त पे फ़िरऔन के भाई
आज़ादी-ए-कामिल की मुक्कमिल नहीं तहरीर
चले चलो के वो मंज़िल अभी नहीं आई

tahrir1 ki hai Khoon se tareeKh2 misr ki
firauniyat3 ke daur4 ki buniyaad5 hila dee
salaam karta huN tumko Khiraaj6 deta hooN
hai faiz7 naii nasl8 ka bhooli hui raah dikh dee1. tahrir from hurriyat in Arabic means freedom. It came to Urdu via Farsi and acquired an additional usage – “writing” 2. history 3. firaun-Pharaoh is a symbol of absolute tryannical power 4. period, epoch, times 5. foundation 6. tribute 7. faiz ahmed faiz but also means benevolence 8. generation
Double use of the word “tahrir” to refer to Tahrir Square and also to say – you are writing the history of Egypt in blood. You have shaken the foundations of Pharaonic tyranny. I pay my respects and offer my tribute. The last misra has double meaning – this is the benevolence of the new generation which is showing us the way that we had forgotten/lost. It can also mean – faiz ahmed faiz is of a new generation (in thought) and has shown us the way we had forgotten.
aur haiN ab bhi zamaane1 meN yazeed o qaisar2
baiThe haiN abhi taKht pe firaun ke bhaii
azadi-e kaamil3 ki mukkamil4 nahiN tahrir5
chale chalo ke vo manzil abhi nahiN aaii1. present times 2. Yazid and Caesar are also symbols of tyranny 3. complete/full freedom 4. completed 5. writing
There are many more tyrants in the present times. The brothers of Pharaoh still sit on thrones. The writing (of the story) of full freedom is not complete yet. Keep going we have not reached our goal. The last misra is a direct borrowing from faiz ahmed faiz’s subah azaadi – about the independence/partition of India/Pakistan.
