آزادی کے بعد ۔ جگن ناتھ آزاد
گرد دامن سے غلامی کی چھڑانے والے
تیرے ماتھے پہ غلامی کا نِشاں آج بھی ہے
جو سماں تیری نگاہوں سے نہاں ہے شاید
وہ سماں میری نگاہوں پہ گِراں آج بھی ہے
نو بہاروں کا فسوں دیکھ کے مسحور نہ ہو
نو بہاروں کے تعقب میں خزاں آج بھی ہے
آج بھی روح میں ہے درد کی دُنیا آباد
دم بخود کانپتے ہونٹوں پہ فغاں آج بھی ہے
آج بھی سینے میں ہیں بے تابِ تکّلم نالے
اور سینے میں دلِ زارِ تپاں آج بھی ہے
جلوہ فرمائی پہ حسن آج بھی آمادہ نہیں
عشق کی ڈوبتی نظروں میں فغاں آج بھی ہے
آج بھی دیدۂ افکار پہ پردے ہیں محیط
حل طلب مسَلۂ سود و زیاں آج بھی ہے
عندلیب آج بھی گلزار میں ہے محوِ فغاں
درد ہر پھول کے سینے میں نہاں آج بھی ہے
یہ الگ بات ہے تو اُس کو نہ دیکھے لیکن
تیرے ماحول میں آہوں کا دھواں آج بھی ہے
رنگ محفل کا بدلتا نظر آتا ہی نہیں
ایک کا سود ہزاروں کا زیاں آج بھی ہے
آج بھی بندہ و آقا میں تفارت ہے وہی
دیدۂ عدل بہ ہر سوُ نگراں آج بھی ہے
آج بھی شور فضا میں ہے وہی محنت کا
گوشِ سرمایہ پہ یہ شور گراں آج بھی ہے
بزمِ احباب سے آتی ہے صدا اُلجھی ہوئی
شورِ ناقوس سے آوازِ اذاں آج بھی ہے
آج بھی مفت نظر ہے وہی سینوں کا عناد
بند اِخلاص و محبت کی دکاں آج بھی ہے
آج بھی پائی نہیں دین سے دنیا نے نجات
نالہ کش محفلِ صاحب نظراں آج بھی ہے
اِس لئے عصر میں اِنصاف کی ائے جنسِ لطیف
صاف کہہ کوئی ترا مرتبہ داں آج بھی ہے
کون اِس دور میں ماحول کا ہو شکوہ طراز
نُطق پر دُشنۂ احکام رواں آج بھی ہے
आज़ादी के बाद – जगन नाथ आज़ाद
गर्द दामन से ग़ुलामी कि छुड़ाने वाले
तेरे माथे पे ग़ुलामी का निशां आज भी है
जो समां तेरी निगाहौं से निहां है शायद
वो समां मेरी निगाहौं पे गिरां आज भी है
नौ बहारौं का फ़ुसूँ देख के मसहूर न हो
नौ बहारौं के तआक़ुब में ख़िज़ान आज भी है
आज भी रूह में है दर्द कि दुनिया आबाद
दम-बा-ख़ुद कांपते होंटों पे फ़ुग़ान आज भी है
आज भी दिल में है बेताब-ए तकल्लुम नाले
और सीने में दिल-ए ज़ार तपां आज भी है
जल्वा फ़रमाई पे हुस्न आज भी आमादा नहीं
इश्क़ की डूबती नज़रौं में फ़ुग़अं आज भी है
आज भी दीदा-ए अफ़्कार पे परदे हैं मोहीत
हल तलब मसला-ए सूद-ओ-ज़ियां आज भी है
अन्दलीब आज भी गुल्ज़ार में है महव-ए फ़ुग़आं
दर्द हर फूल के सीने में निहां आज भी है
ये अलग बात है तू उस को न देखे लैकिन
तेरे माहौल में आहौं का धुआं आज भी है
रंग महफ़िल का बदलता नज़र आता ही नहीं
एक का सूद हज़ारौं का शियान आज भी है
आज भी बन्दा ओ आक़ा में तराफ़त है वही
दीदा-ए अद्ल बा-हर-सू निगरां आज भी है
आज भी शोर फ़िज़ा में है वही मेहनत का
गोश-ए सरमाया पे ये शोर गिरां आज भी है
बज़्म-ए अहबाब से आती है सदा उलझी हुई
शोर-ए नाक़ूस से आवाज़-ए अज़ान आज भी है
आज भी मुफ़्त-नज़र है वही सीनों का अनाद
बन्द इख़्लास ओ मोहब्बत की दुकां आज भी है
आज भी पाई नहीं दीन से दुनिया ने नजात
नाला कश महफ़िल-ए साहिब नज़रां आज भी है
इस नए अस्र में इन्साफ़ की अए जिन्स-ए लतीफ़
साफ़ कह, कोई तेरा मरतबा दां आज भी है
कौन इस दौर में माहौल का हो शिकवा दराज़
नुत्क़ पर दुश्ना-ए अहकाम रवां आज भी है

You have shaken off the dust of slavery from your robe but the mark of slavery is still seen on your brow. The sight which perhaps is hidden from your eyes, still is visible to me and bothers me.

nau-bahaarauN1 ke ta’qub4 meN KhizaaN5 aaj bhi hai
aaj bhi rooh6 meN hai dard ki duniya aabad
dum-ba-Khud7 kaaNpte hoNTauN pe fuGhaaN8 aaj bhi hai1.new spring 2.enchantment 3.deceived 4.chasing 5.dry season, autumn 6.spirit 7.stunned, frozen 8.cry, lamentation
Don’t be deceived by the newly blooming spring (new political order). Chasing hard after it is autumn (human misery). The spirit is still wounded. Lamentation (of the have-nots) is but (momentarily) frozen on the lips (ready to come out at the least pretext).
aaj bhi dil meN haiN be-taab1-e takallum2 naale3
aur seene meN dil-e zaar4 tapaaN5 aaj bhi hai
jalva-farmaaii6 pe husn7 aaj bhi aamada8 nahiN
ishq9 ki Doobti nazrauN meN fuGhaaN10 aaj bhi hai 1.restless, eager 2.speaking, expression 3.wails, complaints 4.sorrowful 5.burning, hurting 6.displaying beauty/face 7.beauty, beloved, vision 8.lover, revolutionary 10.wailing
Even to this day complaints (of injustice) are eager to express themselves and the sorrowful heart still burns in the bosom (with pain). The beautiful vision (of the beloved – socialist order) that we had, is still not ready to manifest itself. The sinking eyes of the (drowning) lover/revolutionary are still sorrowful.
aaj bhi deeda1-e afkaar2 pe parde haiN moheet3
hal4 talab5 masala6-e sood7 o ziyaaN8 aaj bhi hai
andaleeb9 aaj bhi gulzaar meN hai mahv10-e fuGhaaN11
dard har phool ke seene meN nihaaN12 aaj bhi hai1.eyes 2.reason, logic 3.spread over, covering 4.solution 5.demanding 6.problem 7.profit 8.loss 9.bulbul, songbird 10.engrossed 11.lamentation 12.hidden
Even today reason is covered by a curtain (of bias, selfish interests, ignorance?). The problem of distribution of wealth (profit and loss) still demands a solution. The songbird in the garden is still engrossed in lamentation and pain is hidden in the bosom of every flower.
ye alag baath hai tu us ko na dekhe laikin
tere maahaul1 meN aahauN ka dhuaaN2 aaj bhi hai
raNg mahfil3 ka badalta nazar aata hi nahiN
ek ka sood4 hazaarauN ka ziyaaN5 aaj bhi hai1.atmosphere, conditions 2.smoke of sighs (the heart burns with sorrow and smoke rises in sighs) 3.assembly, society 4.profit 5.loss
It is another matter that you may not be able to see it but in your society smoke still rises from burning hearts. The conditions of society do not seem to change at all. Profit for one, loss for thousands is the order of day even now.
aaj bhi banda1 o aaqa2 meN tafarat3 hai vahi
deeda4-e adl5 ba-har-soo6 nigaraaN7 aaj bhi hai
aaj bhi shor fiza8 meN hai vahi mehnat ka
gosh9-e sarmaaya10 pe ye shor giraaN11 aaj bhi hai1.slave 2.master 3.difference 4.eyes 5.justice 6.in every direction 7.gazing, anguished 8.atmosphere, all around 9.ears 10.wealth, capital 11.heavy, unbearable
Even to this day the same differences exist between master and slave. The eye of Justice is looking everywhere in anguish. Even to this day the cry of labour can be heard all around. Even to this day capital cannot bear to hear this cry.

shor5-e naqoos6 se aavaz-e azaaN aaj bhi hai
aaj bhi muft-nazar7 hai vahi seenauN ka anaad8

The sound emanating from the gathering of friends is still conflicted. The sound of the conch shell (Hindu prayer) is still clashes with the aza’an (Muslim call for prayer). It is still easy to see hatred in their hearts. Their hearts are still closed to love and consideration for the other.
aaj bhi paaii nahiN deen1 se duniya ne najaat2
naala-kash3 mahfil4-e saahib nazaraaN5 aaj bhi hai
is naye asr6 meN insaaf7 ki aye jins8-e lateef9
saaf kah, koii tera martaba-daaN10 aaj bhi hai1.faith, religion 2.deliverance 3.crying, wailing 4.assembly of 5.people who can see, discerning people 6.period, times 7.justice 8.ingredient 9.refined taste 10.respectful of, appreciative of status/importance
Even today the world has not been delivered of (freed of) the (curse of) (blind) faith/religion. Even today the gathering of discerning people is sorrowful (at this condition). Even in this new era, O refined taste of the ingredient of justice, tell me truthfully, is there anyone who appreciates your importance.

nutq4 par dushna5-e ahkaam6 ravaaN7 aaj bhi hai1.times, era 2.conditions 3.complainer 4.voice 5.dagger, sword 6.orders of the powerful 7.flowing, working
Who in these times dare complain about conditions (of injustice). The knife of the powerful still works on (the throat of) voice (of the poet/lover/rebel).
