نوع انساں میں یہ سرمایہ و محنت کا تضاد
امن و تہذیب کے پرچم تلے قوموں کا فساد
ہر طرف آتش و آہن کا یہ سیلاب عظیم
نت نئے طرز پہ ہوتی ہوئی دنیا تقسیم
لہلہاتے ہوئے کھیتوں پہ جوانی کا سماں
اور دہقان کے چھپر میں نہ بتی نہ دھواں
یہ فلک بوس ملیں دل کش و سیمیں بازار
یہ غلاظت پہ جھپٹتے ہوئے بھوکے نادار
دور ساحل پہ وہ شفاف مکانوں کی قطار
سرسراتے ہوئے پردوں میں سمٹتے گل زار
در و دیوار پہ انوار کا سیلاب رواں
جیسے اک شاعر مدہوش کے خوابوں کا جہاں
یہ سبھی کیوں ہے یہ کیا ہے مجھے کچھ سوچنے دے

नौ-ए-इंसाँ में ये सरमाया ओ मेहनत का तज़ाद
अम्न ओ तहज़ीब के परचम तले क़ौमों का फ़साद
हर तरफ़ आतिश ओ आहन का ये सैलाब-ए-आज़ीम
नित-नए तर्ज़ पे होती हुई दुनिया तक़्सीम
लहलहाते हुए खेतों पे जवानी का समाँ
और दहक़ान के छप्पर में न बत्ती न धुआँ
ये फ़लक-बोस मिलें दिलकश ओ सीमीं बाज़ार
ये ग़लाज़त पे झपटते हुए भूके नादार
दूर साहिल पे वो शफ़्फ़ाफ़ मकानों की क़तार
सरसराते हुए पर्दों में सिमटते गुलज़ार
दर-ओ-दीवार पे अनवार का सैलाब-ए-रवाँ
जैसे इक शायर-ए-मदहोश के ख़्वाबों का जहाँ
ये सभी क्यूँ है ये क्या है मुझे कुछ सोचने दे
कौन इंसाँ का ख़ुदा है मुझे कुछ सोचने दे

Our life may be bitter, poisonous and full of venom. It may be painful and tormented. We may be oppressed and sad. But look at how widespread this pain, sorrow and oppression is. Look at this humanity gasping for breath, in the last throes of its life, under the shadow of oppression.

This beautiful scene of fresh green fields swaying with ripe harvest and in the farmer’s hut neither a lamp nor a cooking stove. These tall factories and this dazzling bazaar and these hungry paupers rushing to retrieve something from the garbage.
