اثر پیدا کر ۔ عثمان علی خاں

عشق کرنا ہے تو گریہ میں اثر پیدا کر
معدنِ چشم سے یاقوت و گہر پیدا کر

آبِ خنجر سے جو سیراب تجھے ہونا ہے
سوزِ دِل، سوزِ گلو، سوزِ جگر پیدا کر
۳
حاصلِ گلشنِ اُمّید میں سمجھوں جس کو
نخلِ اُلفت میں اِلہٰی وہ ثمر پیدا کر

چشمِ عالم میں چکا چوند کا عالم کر دے
ذرّہ ذرّہ سے نئے شمس و قمر پیدا کر

کیا غرض ہے تجھے سودائے جہاں سے عثمان
پاؤں بن جائے وہی رہ میں وہ سر پیدا کر

मा’दन-ए चश्म से याक़ूत ओ गोहर पैदा कर

आब-ए ख़ंजर से जो सैराब तुझे होना है
सोज़-ए दिल, सोज़-गुलू, सोज़-ए जिगर पैदा कर

हासिल-ए गुलशन-ए उम्मीद मैं समझूँ जिस को
नख़्ल-ए उल्फ़त में इलाही वो समर पैदा कर
४
चश्म-ए आलम में चकाचौन्द का आलम कर दे
ज़र्रे ज़र्रे से नए शम्स ओ क़मर पैदा कर
५
क्या ग़रज़ है तुझे सौदा-ए जहां से उस्मान
पाऊं बन जाए वाही रह में वो सर पैदा कर

A vaguely sufiyaana Ghazal that demands a lot from the reader – to believe that an absoute monarch when he claims that he is focused on spirituality not on the affairs of the world. But then other poets too make liberal use of ‘poetic license’.

ishq karna hai to giriya1 meN asar2 paida kar
m’aadan3-e chashm4 se yaqoot5 o gohar6 paida kar 1.wailing, sorrow 2.effect 3.mine 5.red ruby 6.pearl
True love requires suffering which is genuine and intense. Only then can it be effective. The eye is likened to a mine from which red rubies (tears of blood) and pearls (tears) should be produced.

aab1-e Khanjar2 se jo sairaab3 tujhe hona hai
soz4-e dil, soz-e gulu5, soz-e jigar6 paida kar 1.water 2.dagger 3.fulfilled, drink until satiated 4.fire 5.throat 6.liver/heart
True love requires the lover to sacrifice himself. That is what is implied by when you drink the water of the dagger until satiated. In order to be able to do this the lover has to develop a fire in his heart.

haasil1-e gulshan2-e ummeed3 maiN samjhuN jis ko
naKhl4-e ulfat5 meN ilaahi6 vo samar7 paida kar 1.harvest, essence, essential yield 2.garden 3.hope 4.tree 5.love 6.god 7.fruit
There is a tree of love in the garden of hope. The poet/lover prays that god grant him fruit of that tree … fruit of such quality that it can be considered to be the essence of the garden of hope.

chashm1-e aalam2 meN chakaachaund3 ka aalam4 kar de
zarre5 zarre se naye shams6 o qamar7 paida kar 1.eyes 2.world 3.dazzling 4.condition 5.particle (of dust) 6.sun 7.moon
The poet is challenging the lover to create new suns and moons out of every particle of dust so the that eyes of the world may be dazzled. This could be interpreted as creating/interpreting every particle to be reflecting the beauty of creation so that everyone is dazzled by it.

kya Gharaz1 hai tujhe sauda2-e jahaaN3 se usmaan
paauN4 ban jaaye vahi rah5 meN vo sar6 paida kar 1.concern 2.affairs 3.world 4.feet 5.pathway 6.head/mind/spirit
The poet osmaan wants to concern himself not with the affairs of world but with the pathway to sprituality and wants to create thought/spirit that will become the feet that carry him along this pathway.
