خبرِ تحیُّرِ عشق سُن نہ جنوں رہا نہ پری رہی
نہ تو توُ رہا نہ تو میں رہا جو رہی سو بے خبری رہی

شہِ بے خودی نے عطا کیا مجھے اب لباسِ برہنگی
نہ خِرد کی بخیہ گری رہی نہ جنوں کی پردہ دری رہی

چلی سمتِ غیب سے اِک ہوا کہ چمن ظہور کا جل گیا
مگر ایک شاخِ نہالِ غم جسے دل کہو سو ہری رہی

نظرِ تغافلِ یار کا گلہ کس زباں سے بیاں کروں
کہ شرابِ صد قدح آرزو خُمِ دل میں تھی سو بھری رہی

وہ عجب گھڑی تھی میں جس گھڑی لیا درس نسخۂ عشق کا
کہ کتاب عقل کی طاق پر جوں دھری تھی تیوں ہی دھری رہی

ترے جوشِ حیرتِ حُسن کا اثر اِس قدر سے یہاں ہوا
کہ نہ آئینہ میں رہی جلا نہ پری کوں جلوہ گری رہی

کیا خاک آتشِ عشق نے دلِ بے نوائے سراجؔ کوں
نہ خطر رہا نہ حذر رہا، جو رہی سو بے خبری رہی

ख़बर-ए-तहय्युर-ए-इश्क़ सुन न जुनूँ रहा न परी रही
न तो तू रहा न तो मैं रहा जो रही सो बे-ख़बरी रही

शह-ए-बे-ख़ुदी ने अता किया मुझे अब लिबास-ए-बरहनगी
न ख़िरद की बख़िया-गरी रही न जुनूँ की पर्दा-दरी रही

कभी सम्त-ए-ग़ैब से क्या हवा कि चमन ज़ुहूर का जल गया
मगर एक शाख़-ए-निहाल-ए-ग़म जिसे दिल कहो सो हरी रही
४
नज़र-ए-तग़ाफ़ुल-ए-यार का गिला किस ज़बाँ से बयाँ करूँ
कि शराब-ए-सद-क़दह आरज़ू ख़ुम-ए-दिल में थी सो भरी रही
५
वो अजब घड़ी थी मैं जिस घड़ी लिया दर्स नुस्ख़ा-ए-इश्क़ का
कि किताब अक़्ल की ताक़ पर जूँ धरी थी त्यूँ ही धरी रही
६
तिरे जोश-ए-हैरत-ए-हुस्न का असर इस क़दर से यहाँ हुआ
कि न आईने में रही जिला न परी कूँ जल्वागरी रही
७
किया ख़ाक आतिश-ए-इश्क़ ने दिल-ए-बे-नवा-ए-‘सिराज’ कूँ
न ख़तर रहा न हज़र रहा मगर एक बे-ख़तरी रही

He composed verse both in faarsi and in urdu. He was tracked down and brought home and kept under guard until after he mentally stabilized. He lost much of his work but was finally able to complete his diivaan. There is a strong mystical/sufiyaana stream to his verse. He did write some romantic Ghazal as well as long narrative verse.

The highest form of love (sufi concept) is to lose oneself (no awareness of self) and achieve union with the beloved. The poet/lover relates the amazing story of love where the lover is not aware of either himself, or of the beloved. He is so lost that the only thing that remains is “unawareness/nothingness”.

Losing oneself/achieving “unawareness” is the highest goal. The lord of “unawareness” has given me the apparel of nakedness i.e. has stripped away all pretense. The stiching (of clothes) done by wisdom/reason (the cover of reason) is gone. The mystery of the frenzy of love is no more. These were all hindrances to the achievement of union with the beloved. They have been stripped away.

A fierce wind blew from the unknown/mysterious and destroyed all sensation of the material world (only the spiritual remained), but a branch of the tree of love called heart remained fresh/green.

The poet/lover cannot find the tongue/words to relate the complaint he has. The beloved’s glance has been uncaring. The plentiful wine of love in the cup of the heart remained untouched, the beloved did not drink any … the cup was still full.

The poet/lover/devotee is engrossed in the enchanting beauty of the beloved (god). It has a big effect on his heart (yahaaN-here). The mirror of his heart loses its shine. The angel (used here to represent the personification of ultimate beauty) is no longer reflected on his heart … has no effect of him any more.

na Khatar4 raha na hazar5 raha, jo rahi so be-Khabari6 rahi 1.ashes 2.fire of love 3.voiceless 4.danger, fear 5.avoidance, escape 6.loss of awareness (of self)
The flame of the fire of love has reduced the voiceless heart of the poet/lover to ashes. He does not feel any fear, he is not looking for any escape. All that is left is complete loss of awareness of the self i.e. he feels complete union with the beloved.
