تو غزل ہوتی ہے ۔ منشی محمد خاں نسیم شاہجہاں پوری

حسن مائل بہ ستم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

عشق بادیدۂ نم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

پھول برسائیں کہ وہ ہنس کے گرائیں بجلی

کوئی بھی خاص کرم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

کبھی دنیا ہو کبھی تم کبھی تقدیر خلاف

روز اک تازہ ستم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

دامنِ ضبط چھٹے، چُور ہو یا شیشۂ دل

حادثہ کوئی اہم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

شکنِ گیسوئے دوراں ہی پہ موقوف نہیں

ان کی زلفوں میں بھی خم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

چارہ گر لاکھ کریں کوششِ درماں لیکن

درد اس پر بھی نہ کم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

رازِ تخلیقِ غزل ہم کو ہے معلوم نسیمؔ

جام ہو مے ہو صنم ہو تو غزل ہوتی ہے

तो ग़ज़ल होती है – मुन्शी मोहममद ख़ाँ नसीम

हुस्न माएल ब-सितम हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

इश्क़ बा-दीदा-ए-नम हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

फूल बरसाएँ के वो हँस के गिराएँ बिजली

कोई भी ख़ास करम हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

कभी दुनिया हो कभी तुम कभी तक़्दीर ख़िलाफ़

रोज़ एक ताज़ा सितम हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

दामन-ए-ज़ब्त छुटे चूर हो या शीशा-ए-दिल

हादसा कोई अहम हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

शिकन-ए-गेसू-ए-दौराँ ही पे मौक़ूफ़ नहीं

उन की ज़ुल्फ़ों में भी ख़म हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

चारागर लाख करें कोशिश-ए-दरमाँ लेकिन

दर्द इस पर भी न कम हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

राज़-ए-तख़लीक़-ए-ग़ज़ल हम को है मालूम नसीम

जाम हो मै हो सनम हो तो ग़ज़ल होती है

When the beloved is inclined towards torture, when the poet/lover’s eyes overflow with tears, that is when a Ghazal is written.

She might shower flowers on the poet/lover, showing her pleasure or she might take pleasure in striking him like lightning, showing her anger. It takes such special kindness of the beloved to create the mood needed to compose a Ghazal.

kabhi duniya ho kabhi tum kabhi taqdir Khilaaf1
roz ek taaza2 sitam3 ho to Ghazal hoti hai

Every day a new calamity – the world, the beloved or fate working against the poet/lover, then he can write a Ghazal.

daaman-e-zabt1 chhuTe chuur ho ya shisha-e-dil
hadesa2 koi aham3 ho to Ghazal hoti hai  
1.hem of the robe of forbearance 2.happening 3.important
Normally the poet/lover is in complete control of himself. But occasionally things get so difficult that he loses control, lets go of the hem of the robe of forbearance. His heart is shattered like glass. If something significant like this happens, then a Ghazal is written.

shikan1-e gesu2-e dauraN3 hi pe mauquf4 nahiN
un ki zulfoN5 meN bhi Kham6 ho to Ghazal hoti hai  
1.wrinkle, curl 2.hair 3.times 4.dependent 5.hair 6.curl
A wrinkle/knot in the hair of the times implies some social upheaval or difficulty. This is not enough for a Ghazal to be written. The beloved’s hair should also be curled for this to happen. See the biting saracasm in dilavar figaar’s Ghazal.

dard is par bhi na kam ho to Ghazal hoti hai  
1.healer 2.cure
The healer may try a hundred thousand cures for the pain of love. Still the pain does not go away and a Ghazal is born.
