او بد نہاد موسیٰ او نا مراد ندّی
تو قلبِ شہر میں ہے صدہا برس سے بہتی

بلدہ کے رہنے والے سب تھے ترے پجاری
ہر ذی حیات کو تھی تو ایک خیرِ جاری

رحمت تھیں تیری موجیں، برکت تھی تیری دھاریں
اچھے بُروں پہ یکساں، تھی تیری مہربانی

تیری عنائیتوں سے جنگل پٹے پڑے تھے
تھی دامنوں میں تیری آباد خلق ساری

دل خود بخود تھے کھنچتے، وہ دلکشی تھی تجھ میں
سب تجھ پہ ٹوٹتے تھے یہ تجھ میں دلبری تھی

نازاں تھے بچّے بوڑھے، تجھ پر جواں فدا تھے
آغوشِ مادری تھی بچّوں کو تیری گودی

تو تھی امین سب کی، تجھ پر تھا سب کو تکیہ
تیرے گھمنڈ پر تھی حاصل فراغ بالی

تیرا برادرانہ تھا میل جول سب سے
ہر دل عزیزی تیری وجہ طمانیت تھی

تو مارِ آستیں ہے پر یہ کسے خبر تھی

रहमत थीं तेरी मौजें, बरकत थी तेरी धारें
अच्छे बुरौं पे यक्सां, थी तेरी महरबानी

तेरी ईना’एतौं से जंगल पटे पढे थे
थी दामनौं में तेरी आबाद ख़ल्क़ सारी

दिल ख़ुद-ब-ख़ुद थे खिंच्ते, वो दिल्कशी थी तुझ में
सब तुझ पे टूटते थे, ये तुझ में दिल्बरी थी

नाज़ां थे बच्चे बूढ़े, तुझ कझ पर जवां फ़िदा थे
आग़ोश-ए मादरी थी बच्चौं को तेरी गोदी

तू थी अमीन सब की, तुझ पर था सब को तकिया
तेरे धमंड पर थी हासिल फ़राग़-बाली

तेरा बरादराना था मेल-जोल सब से
हर दिल अज़ीज़ी तेरी वजह-ए तमानियत थी

तु मार-ए आस्तीं है, पर ये किसे ख़बर थी
ग़फ़्लत में सैकढौं को ईस तरह जा डसेगी

This is a selection of a much longer composition focusing on how critical the river was to the life of the city. The other part of the nazm, describing the devastation of the flood will also be posted.
