کس  قیامت  کی  کشش  اس  جذبۂ  کامل  میں  ہے

تیر  اُن  کے  ہاتھ  میں  پیکاں  ہمارے  دل  میں  ہے

اک  تلاطم  سا  تو  برپا  سینہ  بسمل  میں  ہے

اب  نہ  جانے  تُو  ہے  خود  یا  درد  تیرا  دل  میں  ہے

جلوہ  فرما  کون  اس  اُجڑی  ہوئی  منزل  میں  ہے

آفتابِ  حشر  ہے،  جو  داغ  میرے  دل  میں  ہے

عشق  کا  ہر  رنگ  پنہاں  میرے  آب  و  گِل  میں  ہے

قیس  میرے  سینے  میں،  فرہاد  میرے  دل  میں  ہے

اللہ  اللہ،  یہ  مری  مشقِ  تصوّر  کا  کمال

میں  ہوں  اس  محفل  میں  اور  محفل  کی  محفل  دل  میں  ہے

عشق  میں  گم  گشتگیِ  شوق  راس  آئی  مجھے

تھی  جو  میرے  دل  میں  حسرت  اب  وہ  اُن  کے  دل  میں  ہے

ہر  تڑپ  کے  ساتھ  آ  جاتی  ہے  مجھ  میں  تازہ  روح

شکر  ہے  اتنا  اثر  تو  اِضطرابِ  دل  میں  ہے

شمع  چپ  پروانے  ششدر،  اہلِ  دل  سب  دم  بخود

ہائے  کیا  تصویر  کا  عالم  تری  محفل  میں  ہے

किस क़यामत की कशिश इस जज़्बा-ए कामिल में है

तीर उन के हाथ में, पैकां हमारे दिल में है

एक तलातुम सा तो बरपा सीना-ए बिस्मिल में है

अब न जाने तू है ख़ुद या दर्द तेरा दिल में है

जल्वा फ़र्मा कौन इस उजढी हुई मंज़िल में है

आफ़्ताब-ए हश्र है जो दाग़ मेरे दिल में है

इश्क़ का हर रंग पिन्हां मेरे आब ओ गिल में है

क़ैस मेरे सीने में, फ़रहाद मेरे दिल में है

अल्लाह, अल्लाह, ये मेरी मश्क़-ए तसव्वुर का कमाल

मैं हुं उस महफ़िल में और महफ़िल कि महफ़िल दिल में है

इश्क़ में गुम-गश्तगी-ए शौक़ रास आई मुझे

थी जो मेरे दिल में हसरत अब वो उन के दिल में है

हर तढप के साथ आ जाती है मुझ में ताज़ा रूह

शुक्र है इतना असर तो इज़्तेराब-ए दिल में है

शम’अ चुप, परवाने शशदर, अहल-ए दिल सब दम ब ख़ुद

हाए क्या तस्वीर का आलम तेरी महफ़िल में है

Many of his compositions have been put to music and sung by great singers. This is one of several Ghazal in the zamin of Ghalib and is linked to Ghalib naqsh-e qadam.

kis qayaamat1 ki kashish2 is jazba3-e kaamil4 meN hai
tiir un ke haath meN, paikaaN5 hamaare dil meN hai

The poet is an ideal lover. His love is unblemished and perfect. It has calamitous attraction, so much so, that when the beloved draws an arrow and aims it at him, the tip of the arrow is attracted and penetrates his heart even before she has a chance to shoot the arrow.

ab na jaane4 tuu hai Khud ya dard tera dil meN hai

This much is true – a storm rages in the bosom of the poet/lover. But who knows it is you yourself in there or the pain of your love.

jalva-farma1 kaun is ujRi2 hui manzil3 meN hai
aaftaab4-e hashr5 hai jo daaGh6 mere dil meN hai    
1.manifestation granting 2.devastated 3.stage towards the destination of love 4.sun 5.doomsday 6.wound, scar
It is believed that the sun will shine particularly bright and much hotter on doomsday, ending the world. ‘ujRi hui manzil’ is the poet’s devastated heart. There is someone manifesting herself (her image showing up) in the poet’s heart. It has caused a wound which shines like the doomsday sun.

The styles of love of majnuN and of farhaad were very different. majnuN wandered through the wilderness like a madman looking for laila and farhaad chipped away at the mountain to dig a channel. But both these styles are contained in the basic nature of the poet/lover. Thus, he is the ideal lover of any and all styles.

maiN huN us mahfil4 meN aur mahfil ki mahfil dil meN hai

The miracle of the poet’s imagination is such that he can imagine himself to be in the beloved’s gathering and the whole gathering is in his heart.

ishq meN gum-gashtagi1-e shauq2 raas3 aaii mujhe
thii jo mere dil meN hasrat4 ab vo un ke dil meN hai

I am not sure if there is an implication in ‘gum-gashtagi’ that the poet/lover wandered off to one or more other beloved. If so, the original beloved got jealous and began longing for him. Thus, wandering lost in love proved lucky for me. The longing that was in my heart is now in hers.

har taRap1 ke saath aa jaati hai mujh meN taaza2 rooh3
shukr4 hai itna asar5 to izteraab6-e dil meN hai

Every time the poet’s heart throbs (either in anticipation or fear of the beloved) he gets a new spirit infused in him. He is thankful that there is at least this much effect in the restlessness of his heart.

haa’e kya tasviir6 ka aalam7 teri mahfil8 meN hai

The beloved is extremely beautiful. So much so that as soon as she arrives in the gathering the lamp (which was the centre of light and attention) goes quiet; moths that circled the lamp are perplexed, not knowing what to do; all lovers are stunned. Thus the scene is like that in a still picture.
