آپ کی محفل میں ہے ۔ بہزادؔ لکھنوی

بھیڑ ارمانوں کی، مجمع حسرتوں کا، دل میں ہے
غمزدہ کا قافلہ اُجڑی ہوئی منزل میں ہے
۲
جب میرے جذبِ نظر میں کوئی قوّت ہی نہیں
پھر یہ آخر کش مکش کیوں پردۂ محمل میں ہے
۳
جمع ہے لختِ دل سم خوردہ مژگاں پر مری
دیکھ لو منظر بلا کا سبزۂ ساحل میں ہے
۴
اُف رے سوز غم کہ لو دینے لگے ذرّاتِ دل
میرے ہی دم سے چراغاں کوچۂ قاتل میں ہے
۵
جب تلک بہزادؔ کے سینے میں دل ہے دل میں عشق
روکنے والا اسے کون آپ کی محفل میں ہے
आप की महफ़िल में है-बहज़ाद लखनवी

भीढ अर्मानों की, मज्मा हस्रतों का दिल में है
ग़म-ज़दा का क़ाफ़ेला उजढी हुई मंज़िल में है

जब मेरे जज़्ब-ए नज़र मैं कोई क़ुव्वत ही नहीं
फिर ये आख़र कशमकश क्यूं पर्दा-ए महमिल में है
३
जम’अ है लख़्त-ए दिल सम-ख़ुर्दा मिज़्श्गां पर मेरी
देख लो मंजर बला का सब्ज़ा-ए साहिल में है
४
उफ़ रे सोज़-ए ग़म के लौ देने लगे ज़र्रात-ए दिल
मेरे ही दम से चराग़ां कूचा-ए क़ातिल में है
५
जब तलक बहजाद के सीने में दिल है दिल में इश्क़
रोकने वाला उसे कौन आपकी महफ़िल में है

He was a devout, observant muslim and wrote geet/bhajan to ram and krishn as well. This Ghazal composed in the style of Ghalib’s ‘ye bhi mere dil meN hai’ is linked to Ghalib naqsh-e qadam.

There is a crowd of desires and longings in the heart of the poet/lover. This crowd of desires and longings is the caravan of the grief-stricken lover. It is now stationed in the desolate/ruined heart of the poet.

jab1 mere jazb2-e nazar3 meN koii quvvat4 hi nahiN
phir ye aaKhir5 kashmakash6 kyuN parda-e mahmil7 meN hai 1.when, if 2.short for jazba, emotion 3.sight, glance 4.power 5.used here to mean ‘why then’ 6.struggle 7.palanquin
If there is no power in the emotion of my glance, why then is there this struggle/movement in the curtain of the palanquin i.e., the beloved must feel some attraction that is why she is moving the curtain to try to catch a glimpse of the lover.

dekh lo manzar5 balaa6 ka sabza7-e saahil8 meN hai 1.gathered 2.pieces 3.poisoned 4.eyelashes 5.scene 6.curse 7.greenery 8.shore
The eye is like a ocean brimming with water. The eyelids are the shoreline and the eyelashes are the greenery growing on the shore. ‘laKht-e dil’ pieces of the heart are like tears of blood. These are gathered on the eyelashes because the sorrowful heart sheds tears of blood.

mere hi dam5 se charaaGhaaN6 koocha7-e qaatil8 meN hai 1.Oh 2.fire, passion 3.‘lau dena’ is to inflame even more, increase the flame 4.particles, grains 5.breath, life, power 6.lights, illumination 7.street 8.killer, beloved
The beloved’s street is lit up because of me. This is because the fiery passion of sorrow sets the grains/pieces of heart (tears of blood) aflame.
