اس تجاہل کی انتہا کیا ہے

ایسے جینے کا پھر مزا کیا ہے

غمِ ہستی کی اِنتہا کیا ہے

خامشی ہے زبانِ اہلِ وفا

کون سمجھے کہ مُدّعا کیا ہے

میرے ہی شکوے ہر گھڑی لب پر

یہ تماشا، یہ ماجرا کیا ہے

اِس قدر طولِ داستاں ساحرؔ

کچھ تو کہئیے کہ مُدّعا کیا ہے

ऐसे जीने का फिर मज़ा क्या है – राम प्रकाश साहर होश्यार पूरी

क्या कहा आप ने वफ़ा क्या है

इस तजाहुल कि इन्तहा क्या है

कोई दुनिया में जब न हुआ अपना

ऐसे जीने का फिर मज़ा क्या है

इब्तदा पूछती है ये मुझ से

ग़म-ए हस्ती की इन्तहा क्या है

ख़ामुशी है ज़बान-ए अहल-ए वफ़ा

कौन समझे के मुद्द’आ क्या है

मेरे ही शिक्वे हर घढी लब पर

ये तमाशा, ये माज्रा क्या है

इस क़दर तूल-ए दास्तां साहर

कुछ तो कहिये के मुद्द’आ क्या है

He was the shaagird of labhuram josh malsiani and specialized in composing in a short bahr/meter. This Ghazal is modeled after Ghalib’s ‘ya ilaahi ye maajra kya hai’ and can be considered a tribute to the master. I date this at 1947 (150 years of Ghalib’s birth).

is tajaahul2 ki inteha3 kya hai  
1.faith, fidelity 2.feigned ignorance, pretence 3.extreme
The poet/suitor asks the beloved to be faithful to him and she asks ‘what is fidelity’. What an excess to her feigned ignorance.

koii duniya meN jab na hua apna
aise jiine ka phir maza kya hai   
If I cannot make intimate relationship with anyone in the world, what pleasure is there in this life.

ibteda1 poochhti hai ye mujh se
Gham-e-hasti2 ki intehaa3 kya hai

Life is cruel. Is there any excess/end to its cruelty – it is asking me where I come from i.e. I have to justify my existence, I am being asked why I exist.

Khaamushi hai zabaan1-e ahl-e-vafa2
kaun samjhe ke muddua3 kya hai

The language of suitors is silence. They speak in gestures and deeds, not in words. How can anyone understand what their desire is.

ye tamaasha3, ye maajra4 kya hai

You blame me every moment. What kind of a display is this, what conditions I have been caught in.
