روشن ہے کہکشاں سے کہیں آج تیری خاک

تندیِ حاسداں پہ ہے غالب تیرا سواک

دامن وہ سِل گیا ہے جو تھا مدّتوں سے چاک

ائے سر زمینِ پاک

اب اپنے عزم کو ہے نیا راستہ پسند

اپنا وطن ہے آج زمانے میں سر بلند

پہنچا سکے گا اِس کو نہ کوئی بھی اب گزند

اپنا عَلم ہے چاند ستاروں سے بھی بلند

اب ہم کو دیکھتے ہیں عُطارِد ہو یا سِماک

ائے سر زمینِ پاک

اُترا ہے اِمتحاں میں وطن آج کامیاب

اب حُرّیت کی زُلف نہیں محوِ  پیچ و تاب

دولت ہے اپنے ملک کی بے حدّ و بے حساب

ہوں گے ہم آپ مُلک کی دولت سے فیض یاب

مغرب سے ہم کو خوف نہ مشرق سے ہم کو باک

ائے سرزمینِ پاک

اپنے وطن کا آج بدلنے لگا نظام

اپنے وطن میں آج نہیں ہے کوئی غلام

اپنا وطن ہے راہِ ترقّی پہ تیز گام

آزاد، بامراد، جواں بخت شاد کام

اب عطر بیز ہیں، جو ہوائیں تھیں زہرناک

ائے سر زمینِ پاک

अब अपने अज़्म को है नया रास्ता पसंद

अपना वतन है आज ज़माने में सर-बलंद

पहुंचा सकेगा इस को न कोई भी अब ग़ज़ंद

अब हम को देखते हैं उतारिद हो या सिमाक

अए सरज़मीन-ए पाक

उतरा है इम्तहां में वतन आज कामियाब

अब हुर्रिय्यत कि ज़ुल्फ़ नहीं महव-ए पेच ओ ताब

दौलत है अपने मुल्क कि बे-हद्द ओ बे-हिसाब

होंगे हम आप मुल्क कि दौलत से फ़ैज़-याब

मग़्रिब से हम को ख़ौफ़ न मश्रिक़ से हम को बाक

अए सरज़मीन-ए पाक

अपने वतन का आज बदलने लगा निज़ाम

अपने वतन में आज नहीं है कोई ग़ुलाम

अपना वतन है राह-ए तरक़्क़ी पे तेज़-गाम

आज़ाद, बामुराद, जवां-बख़्त, शाद-काम

अब अत्र-बेज़ हैं जो हवाएं थीं ज़हर-नाक

अए सरज़मीन-ए पाक

ज़र्रे तेरे हैं आज सितारौं से ताबनाक

रौशन है कहकशां से कहीं आज तेरी ख़ाक

He has written with much passion about hindu-muslim and India-pakistan accord. He was much impressed with iqbal and has written several books on him. He also composed tributes and several Ghazal in the style of Ghalib. In 1947 he decided to continue to live in lahore and was invited by jinnah to compose the first anthem to pakistan. This anthem was read on Radio Pakistan on the eve of independence. A few months later jagan nath azad decided to leave pakistan and migrate to hindustan. Still later, pakistan adopted a different national anthem.
