باغِ جناں اپنا ۔ شیر سنگھ نازؔ دہلوی

گلستانِ اِرم سے کم نہ تھا باغِ جناں اپنا
کسی دِن غیرتِ گلزار تھا ہندوستاں اپنا

اُجڑتے ہم نے دیکھا اپنی آنکھوں سے مکاں اپنا
کہ نذرِ بادِ صرصر ہو چکا ہے آشیاں اپنا
۳
جلا کر خاک کر دے گا کسی دِن قلبِ مضطر کو
کرے گا اور کیا اِس کے سوا سوزِ نہاں اپنا

ٹپکتا ہے لہو اشکوں کے بدلے چشمِ پُر نم سے
قفس میں یاد آتا ہے ہمیں جب آشیاں اپنا

کہیں تو کیا کہیں اے نازؔ افسانہ جدائی کا
نظر آتا نہیں ہم کو تو کوئی مہرباں اپنا
बोग़-ए जिनां अपना – शेर सिंध नाज़ देहलवी

गुलिस्तान-ए इरम से कम न था बाग़-ए जिनां अपना
किसी दिन ग़ैरत-ए गुल्ज़ार था हिन्दोस्तां अपना

उजढते हम ने देखा अपनी आंखौं से मकां अपना
के नज़्र-ए बाद-ए सरसर हो चुका है आशियां अपना

जला कर ख़ाक कर देगा किसी दिन क़ल्ब-ए मुज़्तर को
करेगा और क्या इस के सिवा सोज़-ए नेहां अपना

टपकता है लहू अश्कौं के बदले चश्म-ए पुर-नम से
क़फ़स में याद आता है हमें जब आशियां अपना

कहें तो क्या कहें अए नाज़ अफ़्साना जुदाई का
नज़र आता नही हम को तो कोई मेहरबां अपना

In addition to Ghazal in chaste urdu, he wrote several odes to jain religious figures, surely for an audience of urdu speaking jains. This Ghazal is composed in the style of Ghalib’s “zikr us parivash ka aur phir bayaaN apna” and is linked along with several others to the icon under Theme Index, Ghalib naqsh-e qadam.

Our heavenly garden was no less than the Garden of Eden. In the too distant past, our hindostaan was the pride of fields of flowers.

We have seen our home devastated before our very eyes. Our nest was sacrificed to stormy winds.

jalaa kar Khaak1 kar dega kisi din qalb2-e muztar3 ko
karega aur kya is ke siva4 soz5-e nehaaN6 apna 1.ashes 2.heart 3.restless 4.except for 5.fire, pain (of love) 6.hidden
It will burn my heart to ashes. What else can the hidden pain of love do except this.

Tapakta1 hai lahu2 ashkoN3 ke badle4 chashm5-e pur-nam6 se
qafas7 meN yaad aata hai hameN jab aashiyaaN8 apna 1.drip 2.blood 3.tears 4.instead of 5.eyes 6.moist 7.cage 8.nest
The poet is a caged bird pining for his home/nest. Instead of tears, blood drops from his moist eyes whenever he thinks of his nest.

How can I relate, if I am to relate the story of my separation (either from the beloved or from the nest), O naaz. I do not see any friend here who would share my sorrow.
