اک طرف سر صاف، چکنا پیٹ ہے اوندھا گھڑا
اک طرف ہے پیٹ اندر ہاتھ بھر ڈونگا گڑھا
اک طرف کھیتاں پھکٹ کے راس ہے کھلیان ہے
اک طرف خالی بھنڈولی بھوک ہے بھگوان ہے
اک طرف رنگین مہاڑی وہ بھی ہے گروی کو جو
اک طرف ٹٹْی گھڑسی پھٹا کمبل آنگ پو
اک طرف ہتیّ کا ہیڑا کو پگلتایچ نیں
اک طرف سکا ڈغالا پار پھلتایچ نیں
اک طرف انتڑیاں الٹتیں ہنستے ہنستے بار بار
اک طرف رْکتیچ نیں ہے آنکھ سے آنسو کی دھار
اک طرف سو شادیاں ہیں سیٹھ کا ہے سیٹھ دل
اک طرف ہے ایک چھوری باپ کی چھاتی پو سل
اک طرف تو دھن کی لچھمی جا کتو جاتیچ نیں
اک طرف تو موت کو آ کتو آتیچ نیں
اک طرف لڑلڑ کو بھائیاں جان سے بیزار تنگ
اک طرف مانجے کا مانجا ہور منافع میں پتنگ

एक तरफ़ सर साफ़, चिकना पेट औंधा घड़ा
एक तरफ़ है पेट अंदर हाथ भर डोंगा गढ़ा
एक तरफ़ खेतां फुकट के रास हैं खलियान हैं
एक तरफ़ ख़ाली भन्डोलि भूक है भगवान है
एक तरफ़ रंगीन म्हाड़ी वो भी है गिरवी को जो
एक तरफ़ एक टुट्टि घुड़सी फट्टा कंबल आंग पो
एक तरफ़ हत्ती का हेड़ा को पिघलताईच नईं
एक तरफ़ सुक्का डग़ाला पार फलताईच नईं
एक तरफ़ अंतड़ियां उलटतईं हंसते हंसते बार बार
एक तरफ़ रुकतीच नईं है आंख से आंसू की धार
एक तरफ़ सौ शादियां हैं सेठ का है सेठ दल
एक तरफ़ है ऐक छोरी बाप की छाति पो सिल
एक तरफ़ तो धन की लछमी जा कतो जातीच नईं
एक तरफ़ मौत कू भी आ कतो आतीच नईं
एक तरफ़ लड़ लड़ को भाईयां जान से बेज़ार तंग
एक तरफ़ मांजे का मांजा होर मुनाफ़े में पतंग

ek taraf sar saaf, chikna peT aundha1 ghaRa
ek taraf hai peT andar haath bhar DoNga2 gaRha31. upside down 2. a coconut shell cup at the end of a long stick used to dispense water out of a pot 3. etched, buried, stuck
On one side bald head, smooth, round belly like an upside down pot. On the other a hollow stomach the hand on the stomach (nursing hunger) looking like a “Donga” stuck in an empty pot (NOT upside down).
ek taraf khetaaN phukaT1 ke raas2 haiN khaliyaan3 haiN
ek taraf Khaali bhanDoli4 bhook hai bhagwaan hai1. free, appropriated without paying for 2. heaps of grain 3. granary, grain silo 4. clay pots balanced one on top of the other
On one side fields, appropriated piles of grain and full granaries. On the other side empty pots piled one on top of the other, hunger and god.
ek taraf raNgeen mhaaRi1 vo bhi hai girvi2 ko jo
ek taraf ek TuTTi3 ghuRsi4 phaTTa kambal aaNg po1. colloquial for “bungalow”, two storied house 2. occupied as security for a loan 3. TooTi – broken 4. hut
On one side a colourful mansion and that too “appropriated” as a loan guarantee. On the other side a crumbling hut and torn blanket draped on the body.

ek taraf sukka4 daGhaala5 paar6 phaltaaich naiN71. haathi – elephant 2. huge lump 3. pighalta hi nahiN – does not melt/reduce 4. sookha – dry 5. tree limb/branch 6. helpless 7. phalta hi nahiN – does not yield fruit
On one side a huge torso like an elephant with no sign of reducing. On the other a dry branch with cannot fruit.
ek taraf antRiyaaN1 ulaTtaiN2 haNste haNste baar baar
ek taraf rukteeich naiN3 haiN aaNkh se aaNsu ki dhaar1. intenstines, belly 2. ulaTti haiN – turn over, belch 3. rukti hi nahiN – doesn’t stop
On one side a big belly, belching all the time. On the other a constant stream of tears that does not stop.
ek taraf sau shaadiyaaN haiN seTh ka hai seTh dal1
ek taraf hai aek chhori2 baap ki chhaati po sil31. group, community, family 2. damsel, daughter 3. slab (of stone), heavy weight
On one side a hundred wedding feasts in the community of the seTh. On the other a heavy weight on the father’s chest trying to get his daughter married off (no dowry).
ek taraf to dhan1 ki lachhmi2 jaa kato3 jaateeich naiN4
ek taraf maut ku bhi aa kato aateeich naiN51. wealth 2. Lakshmi (godess) of wealth 3. kaho to – if you say/ask 4. jaatte hi nahiN – does not go away 5. aati hi nahiN – does not come
On one side, the godess of wealth does not leave even if you ask. On the other the god of Death does not come even if you beg.
ek taraf laR laR ko bhaaiyaaN jaan se bezaar1 taNg
ek taraf maanje ka maanja2 hoar3 munaafe4 meN pataNg1. tired, disgusted 2. cord used in flying kites, coated with finely shredded glass in order to be sharp and cut off the rival’s kite cord in a kite flying competition 3. aur – and 4. profit, bonus
On one side, even blood brothers in constant conflict, tired of life. On the other – the ability to cut others off and keep the gains.
