gorakh dhanda-03 – naz Khialvi

Click here for overall comments and on any passage for meanings and discussion.  I could not find any authentic written version. This has been compiled from sources that wrote it down from nusrat fateh ali Khan’s qawwali performance. There were many errors. Some serious. I have attempted to correct them (perhaps commit some of my own in the process). Typically in a qawwali related asha’ar of other poets are inserted by the singer. Some of those may still be in here. Overall – a highly enjoyable sufi composition.

You are the focus of our search, even though we live in a world of senses (and you cannot be seen/touched). You are always manifest, you are all around. When we go in a trance (in love of you) we find that there is nothing but you, beloved and beautiful. You are the greatness of heavens, the dignity of the earth. You are the essence of the desire of all creation.

I have been crying, as if washing my face ritually, with tears. At least now grant me a glimpse of you, fill my flask of wine with your vision. Come out from behind the curtain, face to face, for a few minutes, for a few words so that I, naaz, may go about chanting, he is the one, he is the one, there is none but him.
