گُرُو نانک جسے کہتے ہیں وہ اِک مردِ کامل تھا

کہ اُس کے پاس سینے میں تقدّس آفریں دل تھا

وہ گونجا نغمۂ ناہید بن کر آسمانوں میں

لیا جاتا ہے نام اس کا مقدّس داستانوں میں

حقیقت اپنی منوائی حقیقت آشنا ہو کر

جو اٹھا اِبتدا ہو کر تو بیٹھا اِنتہا ہو کر

سبق انسانیت کا دینے آیا ابنِ آدم کو

ترقّی کی طرف لے جانے والا اہلِ عالم کو

زمیں بھی اُس کا لوہا مان کر سونا اُگلتی تھی

کہ جس کے دبدبے سے چرخ کی چھاتی دہلتی تھی

وہ آیا تھا مِٹانے کے لیے تفریق مذہب کی

دمِ آخر بھی کی جس نے اِطاعت ایک ہی رب کی

وہ انساں جس کے قدموں پر زمانہ سر جھکاتا تھا

طریقِ گفتگو سے غیر کو اپنا بناتا تھا

وہ رہبر جس نے گمراہوں کی اکثر پیشوائی کی

بھلائی کی ہمیشہ جِس نے بھی اُس سے برائی کی

گرنتھی راگ سن کر آدمی بیدار ہوتا ہے

زمانہ کی نظر میں صاحب کردار ہوتا ہے

فلک بھی تالبندی کی زمیں پر ناز کرتا ہے

کہ اُس کا طائرِ دل عرش پر پرواز کرتا ہے

گرو نانک کی کم سے کم اطاعت ہی کئے ہوتے

اثر کے موتیوں سے دامنِ دل بھر لیے ہوتے

गुरु-नानक – ग़ुलाम मोहिउद्दीन शातेर हकीमी

गुरु-नानक जिसे कहते हैं वो एक मर्द-ए-कामिल था

के उस के पास सीने में तक़द्दुस-आफ़्रीं दिल था

वो गूँजा नग़्मा-ए-नाहीद बन कर आसमानों में

लिया जाता है नाम उस का मुक़द्दस दास्तानों में

हक़ीक़त अपनी मनवाई हक़ीक़त-आश्ना हो कर

जो उट्ठा इब्तेदा हो कर तो बैठा इंतेहा हो कर

सबक़ इंसानियत का देने आया इब्न-ए-आदम को

तरक़्क़ी की तरफ़ ले जाने वाला अहल-ए-आलम को

ज़मीं भी उस का लोहा मान कर सोना उगलती थी

के जिस के दबदबे से चर्ख़ की छाती दहलती थी

वो आया था मिटाने के लिए तफ़्रीक़ मज़हब की

दम-ए-आख़ेर भी की जिस ने इताअ’त एक ही रब की

वो इंसाँ जिस के क़दमों पर ज़माना सर झुकाता था

तरीक़-ए-गुफ़्तुगू से ग़ैर को अपना बनाता था

वो रहबर जिस ने गुमराहों कि अक्सर पेशवाई की

भलाई की हमेशा जिस ने भी उस से बुराई की

ग्रंथी राग सुन कर आदमी बेदार होता है

ज़माने की नज़र में साहब-ए-किरदार होता है

फ़लक भी ताल-बंदी की ज़मीं पर नाज़ करता है

के उस का ताएर-ए-दिल अर्श पर पर्वाज़ करता है

गुरु-नानक कि कम से कम इता’अत हि किए होते

असर के मोतियों से दामन-ए-दिल भर लिए होते

Ghulam mohiuddin shaatir hakeemi (1912-1988) and started writing verse from 1931 and worked as a teacher from 1942 to 1977. He belonged to a sufi order and served as its leader (sajjaada nashin) after the death of his older brother. This tribute was written in 1969 to celebrate the 500th birth anniversary of nanak.

A golden era dawned as the world accepted the strength of his word. His dignity terrified those who claimed that fate was determined by birth. He came to erase the differentiations/conflicts of religion. To his last breath he followed one (universal) god.

The world bowed at his feet. With his (gentle/loving) way of talking he claimed the “other” as his own. The guide/teacher who often spoke up for even wayward/transgressing people. He always returned good/love for evil/hatred.
