hilaal kar do ge – qamar jalaalavi

mujhi pe Khatm sab apne kamaal1 kar do ge
yahi sitam2 haiN to kya mera haal3 kar do ge1.abilties, talent, tricks 2.persecution 3.condition
You will spend all your tricks on me. If this persecution continues, no telling what my condition will be reduced to.
baRha baRha ke jafaa’eN1 jhuka hi do ge kamar
ghaTa ghaTa ke qamar2 ko hilaal3 kar do ge1.cruelties 2.full moon 3.crescent moon
Recall that the poet’s name and taKhallus are both ‘qamar’ meaning moon or full moon. ‘hilaal’ – the crescent moon with its curve is likened to a bent back. Bent back is a sign of old age or very heavy burden. Thus says the poet/lover to the beloved … you will keep increasing your cruelties and will cause my back to be bent. Increasing cruelties will keep reducing the full moon until it becomes a crescent (bent back). Such a wonderful play with words.
