قافلہ ذہن کا ٹھہرا ہے اسی لمحے پر

یوں تو کہنے کے لئے صبح ہوئی شام ہوئی

ہند کی دولتِ بیدار کو کیوں لوٹ لیا

موت نے مغرب و مشرق کا سکوں لوٹ لیا

دل شکستہِ غمِ دوراں ہے کہ غم خوار گیا

غمِ دل مائلِ فریاد کہ دلدار گیا

زرد، افسردہ و حیراں ہے رُخِ امن و سکوں

امنِ عالم کا طلب گار و نگہدار گیا

دیکھئے حسرتِ تعمیر پہ کیا گزرے گی

ساتھ ہی اُس کے فروغِ در و دیوار گیا

اُٹھ گیا خدمتِ مخلوق تھا جس کا مذہب

جس کے ہر رنگ میں تھا جلوۂ ایثار گیا

وہ خوش آداب و تہذیبِ بشر کا نقّاش

صاحبِ محفلِ رعنائیِ افکار گیا

مادرِ ہند کی ہر سانس ہے اک نشترِ غم

مادرِ ہند کا فرزندِ جگردار گیا

چل بسا نعرۂ آزادی اِنساں کا نقیب

صبح بیداریِ مشرق کا علمدار گیا

دجلہ و نیل کی موجیں ہیں فغاں آمادہ

وادیِ گنگ و جمن کا گُلِ بے خار گیا

چہرۂ منزل مقصود ہے روُپوشِ غبار

قافلہ راہ میں ہے، قافلہ سالار گیا

شدّتِ غم سے تعیّن کی حدیں ٹوٹ گئیں

دوُر تک سلسلۂ دیدۂ خونبار گیا

یک بیک دل میں اک آہنگِ خوش انداز آئی

قالبِ نور میں ڈھلتی ہوئی آواز آئی

آ گئی نیند مسیحا کو تو مایوس نہ ہو

کہ محبّت کی مسیحا نفسی باقی ہے

دَورِ پیمانہ رُکا ہے تو گِلہ مند نہ ہو

چشمِ ساقی کا سُرورِ ابدی باقی ہے

سُست بنیاد ہے یہ کشمکشِ مرگ و حیات

پرتوِ عشق خفی ہو کہ جلی، باقی ہے

مشعلِ نُور ہے مخلوقِ خدا کی خِدمت

اسی مشعل سے فروغِ ازلی باقی ہے

نہ رہا تیشۂ فرہاد تو دل تنگ نہ ہو

ہمّتِ بازوئے مزدور ابھی باقی ہے

زُلفِ آشفتۂ گیتی بھی سنور جائے گی

ہم نفس عشق کی آشفتہ سری باقی ہے

کہیں مٹتا ہے جمالِ رُخِ زیبائے حیات

حُسن باقی ہے اگر خوش نظری باقی ہے

کیوں ہیں درماندۂ حسرت ترے اشکوں کے چراغ

حلقۂ انجمنِ نیم شبی باقی ہے

دل ہو بیدار تو اِس شوخ کے پیغام بہت

صبح باقی ہے نسیمِ سحری باقی ہے

मौत ने मग़्रिब ओ मश्रिक़ का सुकूं लूट लिया

दिल शिकस्ता-ए ग़म-ए दौरां है के ग़म-ख़्वार गया

ग़म-ए दिल मा’एल-ए फ़र्याद के दिल्दार गया

ज़र्द, अफ़्सुर्दा ओ हैरां है रुख़-ए अम्न ओ सुकूं

अम्न-ए आलम का तलबगार ओ निगहदार गया

देखिये हस्रत-ए तामीर पे क्या गुज़्रेगी

साथ हि उस के फ़रोग़-ए दर ओ दीवार गया

उठ गया ख़िद्मत-ए मख़्लूक़ था जिस का मज़्हब

जिस के हर रंग में था जल्वा-ए ईसार गया

वो ख़ुश-आदाब ओ तहज़ीब-ए बशर का नक़्क़ाश

साहब-ए महफ़िल-ए रा’नाई-ए अफ़्कार गया

मादर-ए हिन्द कि हर सांस है एक नश्तर-ए ग़म

मादर-ए हिन्द का फ़र्ज़ंद-ए जिगरदार गया

चल बसा ना’रा-ए आज़ादी-ए इन्सां का नक़ेब

सुबह बेदारि-ए मश्रिक़ का अलम्दार गया

दज्ला ओ नील कि मौजें हैं फ़ुग़ां आमादा

वादी-ए गंग ओ जमन का गुल-ए बे-ख़ार गया

चेहरा-ए मंज़िल-ए मक़्सूद है रूपोश-ए ग़ुबार

क़ाफ़ेला राह में है, क़ाफ़ेला सालार गया

शिद्दत-ए ग़म से त’य्युन कि हदें टूट गईं

दूर तक सिल्सिला-ए दीदा-ए ख़ूंबार गया

यक-ब-यक दिल में एक आहंग-ए ख़ुश अंदाज़ आई

क़ालिब-ए नूर में ढल्ती हुई आवाज़ आई

आ गई नींद मसीहा को तो मायूस न हो

के मुहब्बत कि मसीहा-नफ़सी बाक़ी है

दौर-ए पैमाना रुका है तो गिला-मंद न हो

चश्म-ए साक़ी का सुरूर-ए अबदी बाक़ी है

सुस्त बुन्याद है ये कश्मकश-ए मर्ग ओ हयात

परतव-ए इश्क़ ख़फ़ी हो के जली, बाक़ी है

मश’अल-ए नूर है मख़्लूक़-ए ख़ुदा की ख़िद्मत

इसी मश’अल से फ़रोग़-ए अज़ली बाक़ी है

न रहा तीशा-ए फ़रहाद तो दिल-तंग न हो

हिम्मत-ए बाज़ू-ए मज़्दूर अभी बाक़ी है

ज़ुल्फ़-ए आशुफ़्ता-ए गेती भी संवर जाएगी

हम-नफ़स, इश्क़ की आशुफ़्ता-सरी बाक़ी है

कहीं मिटता है जमाल-ए रुख़-ए ज़ेबा-ए हयात

हुस्न बाक़ी है अगर ख़ुश-नज़री बाक़ी है

क्यूं हैं दरमांदा-ए हस्रत तेरे अश्कौं के चराग़

हल्क़ा-ए अंजुमन-ए नीम-शबी बाक़ी है

दिल हो बेदार तो उस शूख़ के पैग़ाम बहुत

सुब्ह बाक़ी है, नसीम-ए सहरी बाक़ी है

Along with him the advancement of security is gone.

Do not be disappointed if the healer is asleep/dead, for the healing breath of love remains.  Do not complain if the circulation of the cup of wine has stopped, for the eternal happiness of the glance of the saaqi remains.  The struggle of life and death stands on a weak foundation, but the glorious image of love, whether hidden or apparent, remains.

Our guiding light (bright torch) is the service of the creatures of god.  This is the torch that makes eternal/constant progress possible.  Do not be worried if the pickaxe of farhaad is gone, the courage/strength of the arm of the worker remains.  The dissheveled hair of the world can be straightened, O friend the passion of love remains.

Can the glory of the beautiful face of life be ever erased!  Beauty will remain if we have discerning eyes.  Why are your eyes tired and helpless with sorrow, the circle of the midnight society (of constant seekers/workers) is still here.  If the heart is alert, then we can hear the messages of our beloved nehru.  The dawn and the fragrant breeze of the morning is still ahead.
