تم  وہاں  ہو  اور  یہاں  صورت  تمہاری  دل  میں  ہے

دیکھو  کیا  تاثیر  میرے  جذبۂ  کامل  میں  ہے

آ  کے  او  قاتل  تڑپنے  کا  تماشا  دیکھ  لے

جان  تھوڑی  سی  ابھی  باقی  ترے  بسمل  میں  ہے

اپنے  آئینے  پہ  تم  کو  ناز  بیجا  کچھ  نہیں

پر  صفائی  وہ  کہاں  جو  عاشقوں  کے  دل  میں  ہے

ہے  یہ  کافی  خونِ  ناحق  کی  صداقت  کے  لئے

جا  بجا  دھبّہ  لہو  کا  دامنِ  قاتل  میں  ہے

وصلِ  جاناں  کی  ہوس  دل  سے  نہ  نکلی  آج  تک

کاش  بر  آئے  تمنّا  یہ  جو  اپنے  دل  میں  ہے

پھر  ہوائے  دشت  لیتی  ہے  جگر  میں  چٹکیاں

جوشِ  وحشت  رنگ  کچھ  لائے  ہوئے  پھر  دل  میں  ہے

کثرتِ  عصیاں  سے  اے  عثماںؔ  نہیں  کچھ  غم  مجھے

شافعِ  روزِ  قیامت  کا  بھروسہ  دل  میں  ہے

तुम वहां हो और यहां सूरत तुमहारी दिल में है

देखो क्या तासीर मेरे जज़्बा-ए कामिल में है

आके ओ क़ातिल तढपने का तमाशा देख ले

जान थोढी सी अभी बाक़ी तेरे बिस्मिल में है

अपने आईने पे तुम को नाज़ बेजा कुछ नहीं

पर सफ़ाई वो कहां जो आशेक़ौं के दिल में है

ये है काफ़ी ख़ून-ए नाहक़ की सदाक़त के लिये

जा-ब-जा धब्बा लहू का दामन-ए क़ातिल में है

वस्ल-ए जानां की हवस दिल से न निकली आज तक

काश बर आए तमन्ना ये जो अपने दिल में है

फिर हवा-ए दश्त लेती है जिगर में चुटकियां

जोश-ए वहशत रंग कुछ लाए हुए फिर दिल में है

कस्रत-ए इस्यां से अए उस्मां नहीं कुछ ग़म मुझे

शाफ़’ए राज़-ए क़यामत का भरोसा दिल में है

His diivaan was collected and published posthumously in eight fair sized volumes. This is one of several Ghazal that he composed in the zamin of Ghalib. This one, in the zamin of “maiN ne ye jaana keh goya ye bhi mere dil meN hai” is linked to the appropriate sub-category under ‘Ghalib naqsh-e qadam’.

tum vahaaN ho aur yahaaN soorat tumhaari dil meN hai
dekho kya taasiir1 mere jazba2-e kaamil3 meN hai

The beloved is somewhere far away but her image is engraved in the poet/lover’s heart. He claims that this is the effect of his perfect/ideal emotion of love.

jaan thoRi si abhi baaqi4 tere bismil5 meN hai

The beloved is portrayed as a killer and the poet/lover as the victim/prey. She kill him by slashing his throat and walks away. The poet, in the dying throes, is still able to call out … come here O killer/beloved and see the spectacle of writhing in pain. Your victim still has a little life left in him.

apne aaiine pe tum ko naaz1 beja2 kuchh nahiN
par3 safaaii4 vo kahaaN jo aashiqoN ke dil meN hai

You, O beloved, are justifiably proud of your mirror (for it truly reflects your image) but, where can you find the clarity that is in the lovers’ heart.

jaa-ba-jaa4 dhabba5 lahu6 ka daaman7-e qaatil8 meN hai

It is enough to prove the unjustified killing of the lover. There are stains of blood on the hem of the robe of the killer/beloved.

vasl1-e jaanaaN2 ki havas3 dil se na nikli aaj tak
kaash4 bar-aaye5 tamanna6 ye jo apne dil meN hai  
1.union 2.beloved 3.intense desire 4.I wish 5.bear fruit 6.desire
The intense yearning for union with the beloved is still not fulfilled. I wish that this desire in my heart would bear fruit.

phir havaa-e dasht1 leti hai jigar2 meN chuTkiyaaN3
josh4-e vahshat5 raNg6 kuchh laaye hue phir dil meN hai    
1.wilderness, desert 2.liver/heart 3.pinching, tickling 4.passion 5.madness 6.raNg laana is an expression meaning ‘emerging with style’
Once again the desert winds tickle my heart and the passion for madness rises in style. This is a reference to the passion of majnuN of laila-majnuN fame. He wandered through the desert, clothes torn, mad with love, looking for laila. It is this same style and desire to follow it that is rising in the poet/lover’s heart.

shaaf’e4 roz-e-qayaamat5 ka bharosa6 dil meN hai

O usmaan, I am not concered about my numerous sins. I trust that the saviour of the day of judgement will intercede on my behalf. The ‘saviour’ is mohammed, the prophet of islam.
