دُنیا میں ہوں دُنیا کا طلبگار نہیں ہوں
بازار سے گزرا ہوں خریدار نہیں ہوں

زندہ ہوں مگر زیست کی لذّت نہیں باقی
ہرچند كہ ہوں ہوش میں ہشیار نہیں ہوں
۳
اِس خانۂ ہستی سے گزر جاؤں گا بے لوث
سایہ ہوں فقط نقش بہ دیوار نہیں ہوں

افسُردہ ہوں عبرت سے، دوا کی نہیں حاجت
غم کا مجھے یہ ضعف ہے، بیمار نہیں ہوں
۵
وہ گُل ہوں خزاں نے جسے برباد کیا ہے
اُلجھوں کسی دامن سے میں وہ خار نہیں ہوں
۶
افسردگی و ضعف کی کچھ حد نہیں اکبر
کافر كے مقابل میں بھی دیندار نہیں ہوں

दुनिया में हुं दुनिया का तलबगार नहीं हुं
बाज़ार से गुज़रा हुं ख़रीदार नहीं हुं

ज़िंदा हुं मगर ज़ीस्त की लज़्ज़त नहीं बाक़ी
हरचंद के हुं होश में हुशियार नहीं हुं
३
इस ख़ाना-ए हस्ती से गुज़र जाऊंगा बे-लौस
साया हुं फ़क़त नक़्श बा-दीवार नहीं हुं

अफ़्सुर्दा हुं इब्रत से दवा की नहीं हाजित
ग़म का मुझे ये ज़ौफ़ है बीमार नहीं हुं
५
वो गुल हुं ख़िज़ा ने जिसे बरबाद किया है
उलझूं किसी दामन से मैं वो ख़ार नहीं हुं
६
अफ़्सुर्दगी-ए ज़ौफ़ की कुछ हद नहीं अकबर
काफ़िर के मुक़ाबिल में भी दींदार नहीं हुं

I am alive but there is no pleasure left in living. Even though I am in my senses, I am not sensible/wise.

saaya huN, faqat5 naqsh-ba-deevar6 nahiN huN 1.house of 2.life, existence 3.pass through 4.without involvement/entanglement 5.only 6.etching on the wall, used here to imply something that remains for long.
I will pass through this house of existence without getting entangled. I am like a passing shadow, not an etching/picture on the wall that remains here.

afsurda1 huN ibrat2 se, dava ki nahiN haajit3
Gham ka mujhe ye zauf4 hai, biimaar nahiN huN1.wilted, melancholy 2.fear 3.need 4.weakness
I am depressed because of fear (of what might happen after death), I don’t need any medication. This weakness is due to sorrow/fear/regret, I am not sick.

vo gul huN KhizaaN1 ne jise barbaad kiya hai
uljhuN2 kisi daaman3 se maiN vo Khaar4 nahiN huN 1.winter, barren season, old age 2.entangled 3.hem of a robe 4.thorn
I am that flower which has been destroyed/wilted by winter. I am not the thorn that gets entangled with robes i.e. I have not hurt anyone, I am just fading away in old age.

afsurdagi1-e zauf2 ki kuchh hadd3 nahiN akbar
kaafir4 ke muqabil5 meN bhi deeNdaar6 nahiN huN 1.depression, sorrow 2.weakness/old age 3.limit 4.unbeliever 5.compared to 6.person of faith
There is no limit to the sorrow I feel due to old age, O akbar. (As I fear judgement in afterlife I realize that) even compared to a non-believer I am no man of faith.
akbar ilahabadi (1846-1921) is more popularly known for his satirical and humorous compositions. But he has written many serious, sufiyaana and thought provoking Ghazal. This is an example of one such Ghazal.
