अए सरज़मीन-ए हिन्द के अर्बाब-ए एक़्तेदार

ग़ालिब से यक-ब-यक ये अक़ीदत है किस लिये

कल तक तो उस की याद भी आती न थी तुम्हें

और आज ये लगन ये मोहब्बत है किस लिये

उट्ठे हो उस का जश्न मनाने को शहर शहर

वल्लाह ये करम ये इनाएत है किस लिये

ग़ालिब से तुम को प्यार है इतना तो फिर कहो

उस की ज़बान से ये अदावत है किस लिये

उर्दू का क़त्ल-ए आम तुम्हें क्यूं पसंद है

ये क़हर, ये ग़ज़ब ये क़यामत है किस लिये

ग़ालिब का जश्न तुम जो मनाते हो दोस्तो

उर्दू ज़बां का ख़ून छुपाते हो दोस्तो

His family had no background in shaa’eri but he started composing while still in school. In dayaal siNgh college he won student competitions in a mushaa’era and came to the notice of taajvar najeebaabaadi professor of urdu and faarsi at the time. Later he became his ustaad/mentor. He had to flee to India under very difficult circumstances and lost all financial means. Finally, in 1967 he became lecturer in punjab university, paTiala. His collection was published in 1977 with a grant from the punjab government. In this collection he has a nazm which describes how he saved a muslim girl from being raped by a sikh mob. Another nazm describes his pain at the loss of home. This nazm was composed and recited in April 1969, as a part of Ghalib Centennial celebrations.
