निगह-ए सहर-साज़ पैदा कर


अब ख़ुदा भी तो कारसाज़ नहीं
अब नया कारसाज़ पैदा कर


जो मशीय्यत का इन्केशाफ़ करे
वो करामत वो राज़ पैदा कर


चार-सू एक नग़्मा लहराए
वो दम-ए नए-नवाज़ पैदा कर


गर गुनाहों से रब्त करना है
पहले इस का जुवाज़ पैदा कर


ख़ुद हक़ीक़त को नाज़ हो जिस पर
ऐसी शान-ए मजाज़ पैदा कर


ज़ीस्त में जद्द-ओ-जहद की ख़ातिर
ख़ुद नशेब ओ फ़राज़ पैदा कर

The poet calls upon himself and/or those who are proud (naaz vaale) to cultivate humility (niyaaz). The second misra suggests that humility itself is the cap of honour (turra-e imtiyaaz) of distinction/respect.

dil meN apne gudaaz1 paida kar
aatish2-e soz-o-saaz3 paida kar   
1.softness, tenderness 2.fire 3.passion and exhilaration
The poet urges himself and/or the reader to create tenderness (gudaaz) in their heart (tenderness of love for others, tenderness to feel the pain of others) and ignite the fire of passion and exhilaration (aaatish-e soz o saaz), symbolizing emotional and creative energy.

nig’h2-e sahar-saaz3 paida kar   
1.intoxicated 2.eyes, glance 3.enchantment creating
The poet addresses the saaqi (wine-bearer), asking them to use their intoxicated eyes (mast aaNkheN) to create a enchantment creating gaze (nig’h-e sahar-saaz), perhaps which would inspire people and draw them to mystic knowledge.

ab nayaa kaarsaaz paida kar   
1.maker, doer, problem solver
The poet reflects that even god (Khuda) is not helping, so it is time to create a new helper (kaarsaaz). This couplet emphasizes self-reliance and innovation in the face of adversity.

jo mashiyyat1 kaa inkeshaaf2 kare
voh karaamat3 voh raaz4 paida kar    
1.divine will 2.uncover, reveal, discover 3.miracle 4.secret
The poet encourages himself and/or the reader to uncover/discover divine will/intent (mashiyyat) through miracles (karaamat) i.e. miraculous effort and understand secrets (raaz) i.e., hidden truths.

vo dam3-e na’e4-navaaz5 paida kar

The expression na’e-navaaz also means flute player. The poet envisions a melody (naGhma) spreading in all directions (chaar suu). He calls for a breath (dam) that nurtures and plays the flute, symbolizing renewal and creativity.

If one must associate with sins (gunaahoN se rabt), they should first find/explain a justification (javaaz) for it.

aisi shaan3-e majaaz4 paida kar

The poet calls upon himself/other poets to create such grandeur of illusion/imagination (shaan-e majaaz) in their versified metaphorical expressions that even reality (haqiiqat) takes pride (naaz) in it.

The implication is that a life of struggle requiring effort is better than a monotonous/easy life. Thus the poet calls for creating their own ups and downs (nasheb o faraaz) in the struggle (jadd o jahd) of life.

Making an agreement with death means coming to terms with death, looking upon it as a natural end, making peace with it. O gulzaar, with the strength of your belief (husn-e yaqiN) create harmony/agreement (saaz baaz) with death (maut). There could be an implication that spiritual after-life is more desirable.

This is a call for communal harmony. Creating ‘hijaaz’ in India is a metaphorical expression for creating room for islaamic belief system in the country. Creating ‘hijaaz’ in the but-kadaa is symbolic of the fusion of spiritual and cultural identities.
