لمحہ رخصت ۔ مخدوم محی الدین
کچھ سننے کی خواہش کانوں میں، کچھ کہنے کا ارماں آنکھوں میں
گردن میں حمائل ہونے کی بے تاب تمنّا باہوں میں
مشتاق نگاہوں کی زد سے نظروں کا حیا سے جھک جانا
اِک شوقِ ہم آغوشی پنہاں اُن نیچی بھیگی پلکوں میں
شانے پہ پریشاں ہونے کو بے چین سیہ کاکل کی گھٹا
پیشانی میں طوفاں سجدوں کا، لب بوسی کی خواہش ہونٹوں میں
وارفتہ نگاہوں سے پیداہے ایک ادائے زلیخائی
اندازِ تغافل تیور سے، رسوائی کا ساماں آنکھوں میں
فرقت کی بھیانک راتوں کا رنگین تصوّر میں آنا
افشائے حقیقت کے ڈر سے ہنس دینے کی کوشش ہونٹوں میں
آ نسو کا ڈھلک کر رہ جانا، خوں گشتہ دِلوں کا نذرانہ
تکمیلِ وفا کا افسانہ کہہ جانا آ نکھوں آ نکھوں میں
लम्हा ए रुख़सत – मख़्दूम मोहिउद्दीन
कुच्छ सुनने की ख़्वाहिश कानों में, कुच्छ कहने का अरमां आँखों में
गर्दन में हमाएल होने की बे ताब तमन्ना बाहों में
मुश्ताक़ निगाहों की ज़द से नज़रों का हया से झुक जाना
एक शौक़ ए हम आग़ोशी पिन्हां उन नीची, भीगी पलकों में
शाने पे परेशां होने को बे चैन सियाह काकुल की घटा
पेशानी में तूफ़ां सिज्दों का, लब बोसी की ख़्वाहिश होंटों में
वारफ़्ता निगाहों से पैदा, है एक अदा ए ज़ुलैख़ाई
अंदाज़ ए तग़ाफ़ुल तैवर से, रुसवाई का सामां आँखों में
फ़ुरक़त की भयानक रातों का रंगीन तसव्वुर में आना
अफ़्शा ए हक़ीक़त के डर से हंस देने की कोशिश होंटों में
आंसू का ढ़लक कर रह जाना, ख़ूं गश्ता दिलों का नज़राना
तकमील ए वफ़ा का अफ़साना कह जाना आँखों आँखों में

The beloved (and the poet/lover) is heartbroken at the moment of departure. Ears all agog to hear (words of love), eyes eager to tell (the story of love). Arms impatient to encircle the neck in nestling embrace.
mushtaaq6 nigaahoN ki zad7 se nazroN ka haya8 se jhuk jaana
ek shauq e ham aaGhoshi9 pinhaaN10 un neechi, bheegi palkoN11 meN6.eager 7.bounds, span 8.embarrassment 9.desire to embrace 10.hidden 11.eyelashes
Eyes, shy, turning away from the passionate gaze (of the poet/lover). The desire for loving embrace concealed in limpid, liquid eyes.
shaane pe pareshaaN12 hone ko bechain siyah kakul13 ki ghaTa
peshaani meN toofaN sijdoN ka, lab bosi14 ki Khwaahish hoNToN meN12.scattered 13.dark forelocks, curly and dark tresses 14.kiss on the lips
Dark tresses impatient to fly open, spread free across the shoulders. Prayerful storms playing on the brow, lips eager to kiss. Spreading one’s hair on shoulders is a desire to break the confines of purdah and an eagerness to meet the lover. “peshaani meN toofaN sijdoN ka” can also imply a rebelliousness against convention and an acceptance of the “god of love”.
vaarafta1 nigaahoN se paida, hai ek ada-e-zuleiKhaaii2
andaaz-e-taGhaful3 taivar4 se, rusvaai5 ka saamaaN aaNkhoN meN1.wandering (furtive) 2.style of Zuleikha 3.(feigned) style of difference 4.posture 5.embarrassment
The wanton, furtive glances – flirtatious as zuleiKha herself. Feigning indifference in posture, eyes showing fear of embarrassment. “zuleiKha” is a legendary Biblical/Quranic figure associated with “yusuf-zuleiKha”. “yusuf=Joseph” was the handsome Hebrew slave (and a prophet) and “zuleiKha” the Egyptian princess who fell in love with him. Her playfulness and coquetry are stuff of legend and used often in urdu poetry metaphorically.
furqat6 ki bhayaanak raatoN ka raNgeen tasavvur7 meN aana
afsha-e-haqeeqat8 ke Dar se haNs dene ki koshish hoNToN meN6.separation (from the lover) 7.imagination 8.discovery/revelation of truth (hidden desire)
The pain of nights of separation, haunt the imagination yet again. Trying to laugh it all off, for fear of letting the truth be known.
aaNsu ka Dhalak kar rah jaana, KhooN gashta9 diloN ka nazrana10
takmeel-e-vafa11 ka afsaana12 kah jaana aaNkhoN aaNkhoN meN9.bleeding 10.homage 11.keeping promise of faith 12.legend
The tears roll down, a tribute to the heart that bleeds. Eyes speak volumes, the promise to keep faith.
