خودی میں مُبتلا ہونا خُدا سے دور ہو جانا
قیامت ہے دوروزہ عیش میں مخمور ہو جانا

اِدھر دولت جمع ہوتی اُدھر منقودِ راحت ہے
شبِ دیجور کی آمد ضیا کافور ہو جانا

ہمارے اور ساماں، حق کی مرضی اور ہوتی ہے
کہاں سامانِ راحت اور کہاں رنجور ہو جانا

مِٹا دو اپنی ہستی کو اگر عزّت کی خواہش ہے
جو سرمہِ چشم بننا ہو تو مِثلِ طور ہو جانا

سرِ راہ ہم کو دُنیا دیکھتی جاتی ہے حیرت سے
بلا ہے فخرؔ دُنیا میں کوئی مشہور ہو جانا

शब-ए देजूर की आमद, ज़िया काफ़ूर हो जाना

हमारे और सामां, हक़ की मर्ज़ी और होती है
कहां सामान-ए राहत, और कहां रंजूर हो जाना

मिटा दो अपनी हस्ती को अगर इज़्ज़त की ख़्वाहिश है
जो सुरमा-ए चश्म बन’ना है तो मिस्ल-ए तूर हो जाना

सर-ए रह हम को दुनिया देखती जाती है हैरत से
बला है फ़ख़्र, दुनिया में कोई मश’हूर हो जाना

His brother, p hanumanth rao was active in politics. He recited this Ghazal at a mushaa’era in mahbubnagar in 1930 (date converted from fasli listing). It has faint sufiyaana echoes.

Here (in this life) you can collect material wealth, but there (for the hereafter) there is the wealth of happiness/contentment. Collection of material wealth is like the arrival of the dark night when all light (virtue) departs.

Our plans are something but god’s will is something else. How can we compare the sorrowful existence of this material life with the means of contentment/happiness that god wills.

This she’r draws on the Biblical/quranic story of Moses, when he went up Mt. tuur asking to see some manifestation of god. There was a lightning strike and the mountain was reduced to ashes (the ‘ego’ of the mountain was wiped out). That opened up Moses’ eyes to the power of god. The ashes of that mountain are considered to be ‘surma’ when applied to the eyes, it improves sight. Thus, if you seek respect, become like Mt. tuur and be willing to wipe out your ego.
