یہ کیا چمن سے نسیمِ بہار گذری ہے

نہ عارضوں کی صباحت نہ گیسوؤں کی شمیم

بس ایک لمحہ تیری یاد کا ہے وجہ نشاط

حیات یوں تو بہت ناگوار گذری ہے

یہ تیرا غم بھی تیرا غم نہیں رہا اے دوست

کچھ اِس ادا سے شبِ اِنتظار گذری ہے

جو تیرے سایۂ گیسو میں ہو گئی تھی بسر

وہ ایک رات بڑی یادگار گذری ہے

نہ جانے کون سی منزل ہے یہ محبّت کی

کہ دِل پہ اُن کی تسلّی بھی بار گذری ہے

یہ فیض مے کا یہ ساقی کا ہے کرم شاربؔ

تمام عمر جو مستانہ وار گذری ہے

न आरेज़ैं की सबाहत न गेसुऔं कि शमीम

ये कैसी शब मेरे परवरदिगार गुज़री है

बस एक लम्हा तेरी याद का है वजह निशात

हयात युं तो बहुत नागवार गुज़री है

ये तेरा ग़म भी तेरा ग़म नहीं रहा अए दोस्त

कुछ इस अदा से शब-ए इंतेज़ार गुज़री है

जो तेरे साया-ए गेसू में हो गई थी बसर

वो एक रात बड़ी यादगार गुज़री है

न जाने कौन सी मंज़िल है ये मोहब्बत की

के दिल पे उन की तसल्ली भी बार गुज़री है

ये फ़ैज़ मै का ये साक़ि का है करम शारिब

तमाम उम्र जो मस्ताना वार गुज़री है

After matriculation he worked for the agriculture department in hyderabad. He was very much a part of the group of progressive shu’ara of hyderabad. ye kya chaman se nasim3-e bahaar guzri hai

In normal times, when the morning breeze blows it playfully tickles unopened buds and persuades them to bloom. But this time it has blown away their comfort/pleasure. I am not sure if this refers to a specific event or is just a general protest.

The poet/lover spent a terrible night without the company of the beloved, not being able to see the beauty of her face or breathe the fragrance of her hair. faiz wrote this from prison …

kuchh is ada2 se shab3-e intezaar4 guzri hai

The night of waiting has been so painful that even longing for her which usually is a mix of pain and pleasure has lost that touch of pleasure. It is all pain.

ke dil pe un ki tasalli2 bhi baar3 guzri hai

Love goes through many stages … the poet/lover recognizes that. But this appears to be a strange/unusual stage when eve the beloved’s comforting/consoling words appear to be too heavy to bear.

tamaam umr jo mastaana-vaar guzri hai
