نامہ بر کو میں ۔ پنڈت راج نرائن ارمانؔ

کیا لِکّھوں ماجرائے غم اُس فتنہ گر کو میں
دل میں ہے خط میں چیر کے رکھ دوں جِگر کو میں
۲
خود ہی پہنچ گیا ہوں وہاں بہرِ اِلتجا
طرزِ بیاں بتاتا ہوا نامہ بر کو میں
۳
تیرِ نگاہِ یار کے دونوں شہید ہیں
اب دِل کی لوں خبر کہ سنبھالوں جِگر کو میں
۴
کل بھی نہ تُجھ سے ہوگا وفا وعدۂ وِصال
لو آج ہی سُناتا ہوں کل کی خبر کو میں

क्या लिक्खूं माजरा-ए ग़म उस फ़ित्ना-गर को मैं
दिल में है, ख़त में चीर के रख दूं जिगर को मैं

तर्ज़-ए बयां बताता हुआ नामा-बर को मैं

तीर-ए निगाह-ए यार के दोनों शहीद हैं

कल भी न तुझ से होगा वफ़ा वादा-ए विसाल
लो आज ही सुनाता हूं कल की ख़बर को मैं

kya likkhuN majraa1-e Gham uss fitna-gar2 ko maiN
dil meN hai, Khat meN chiir3 ke rakh duN jigar4 ko maiN 1.incident, condition 2.mischief maker 3.tear out 4.liver/heart
The beloved is described as ‘fitna-gar’-mischief-maker, hell-raiser. What is the use of writing the condition of the sorrow my heart to that mischief-maker. It is in my heart (I think) that I should tear out my heart/liver and place it along with the letter.

Khud hi pahuNch1 gaya huN vahaaN bahr2-e ilteja3
tarz4-e bayaaN5 bataata hua naama-bar6 ko maiN 1.reach 2.for the sake of 3.appealing, petitioning 4.style 5.speaking 6.messenger
Normally, the lover writes out his letters and gives them to the messenger who not only is supposed to deliver it to the beloved but also supplement that with an oral message. The lover does not quite trust the messenger in delivering the oral message in the right tone and style. So, he starts walking with the messenger instructing him along the way on the right style of delivering the oral message. He was so absorbed in explaining this style to the messenger that he arrived there (at the beloved’s) to present his petition himself.

tiir-e nigaah1-e yaar2 ke donoN shahiid3 haiN
ab dil ki luN Khabar4 ke sambhaaluN5 jigar6 ko maiN 1.sight, glance 2.friend, beloved 3.martyred, killed 4.news, inquire after 5.take care of 6.liver/heart
The glance of the beloved is called an arrow that penetrates the heart all the way to the liver. Said Ghalib …
dil se teri nigaah jigar tak utar gaii
donoN ko ek adaa meN razaa-mand kar gaii
Thus, both (heart and liver) have been martyred by the arrow of the beloved’s glance. Now, should I take care of the heart or look after the liver.

kal bhi na tujh se hoga vafaa1 vaada2-e visaal3
lo aaj hi sunaata4 huN kal ki Khabar5 ko maiN 1.fulfill, be true to 2.promise 3.union 4.narrate, tell 5.news, information
The poet/lover is convinced that the beloved will not fulfill her promise of union tomorrow either, just like she has not done so this day or any day in the past. So he says, why not relate to you today the information that I had planned to deliver tomorrow.
