نہیں مانتا -حبیب جالب
دیپ جس کا محلّات ہی میں جلے
چند لوگوں کی خوشیوں کو لے کر چلے
وہ جو ساۓ میں ہر مصلحت كے پلے
ایسے دستور کو، صبح بے نور کو
میں نہیں مانتا، میں نہیں جانتا
میں بھی خائف نہیں تختۂ دار سے
میں بھی منصور ہوں کہہ دو اغیار سے
کیوں ڈراتے ہو زنداں کی دیوار سے
ظلم کی بات کو جہل کی رات کو
میں نہیں مانتا، میں نہیں جانتا
پھول شاخوں میں کِھلنے لگے تم کہو
جام رندوں کو ملنے لگے تم کہو
چاک سینوں كے سِلنے لگے تم کہو
اِس کھلے جھوٹ کو ، ذہن کی لوٹ کو
میں نہیں مانتا، میں نہیں جانتا
تم نے لُوٹا ہے صدیوں ہمارا سکوں
اب نہ ہم پر چلے گا تمہارا فسوں
چارہ گر دردمندوں كے بنتے ہو کیوں
تم نہیں چارہ گر کوئی مانے مگر
میں نہیں مانتا، میں نہیں جانتا

चन्द लोगौं कि ख़ुशियों को ले कर चले
वो जो सा’ए में हर मस्लेहत के पले
ऐसे दस्तूर को सुबह-ए बे नूर को
मैं नहीं मानता, मैं नहीं जानता
मैं भी ख़ाएफ़ नहीं तख़्ता-ए दार से
मैं भी मन्सूर हुं कह दो अग़यार से
क्यूं डराते हो ज़िन्दां की दीवार से
ज़ुल्म की बात को जहल की रात को
मैं नहीं मानता, मैं नहीं जानता
फूल शाख़ों में खिलने लगे तुम कहो
जाम रिन्दों को मिलने लगे तुम कहो
चाक सीनौं के सिलने लगे तुम कहो
इस खुले झूट को, ज़ह्न की लूट को
मैं नहीं मानता, मैं नहीं जानता
तुम ने लूटा है सदियौं हमारा सुकूं
अब ना हम पर चलेगा तुम्हारा फ़ुसूँ
चारागर दर्दमन्दों के बनते हो क्यूं
तुम नहीं चारागर कोइ माने मगर
मैं नहीं मानता, मैं नहीं जानता

diip jis ka mahallaat hi meN jale
chand logauN ki KhushiyauN ko le kar chale
vo jo saa’e meN har maslahat1 ke pale
aise dastoor2 ko subah-e be-noor3 ko
maiN nahiN maanta maiN nahiN jaanta1. (hidden) purpose, hidden agenda 2. constitution 3. without light, dark Its lamp lights only palaces.
It takes the interests of only selected people into account. It is nurtured by hidden agendas/narrow interests. I do not recognize a constitution that ushers in such a dark dawn.
maiN bhi Khaa’ef1 nahiN taKhta-e daar2 se
maiN bhi mansur3 huN kah do aGhyaar4 se
kyuN Daraate ho zindaaN5 ki deevaar se
zulm6 ki baat ko jahl7 ki raat ko
maiN nahiN maanta maiN nahiN jaanta1. afraid 2. hangman’s platform 3. masur al-hallaj who declared “I am the Truth” and was accused of apostacy, refused to recant and was hanged. Symbol of resistance 4. others, everyone 5. prison 6. oppression 7. ignorance
I am not afraid of being hanged. Let everyone know that I too am like Mansur. Why do you threaten me with imprisonment. I do not recognize this edict of oppression, this dark night of ignorance.
phool shaaKhauN meN khilne lage tum kaho
jaam1 rindauN2 ko milne lage tum kaho
chaak3 sinauN ke silne lage tum kaho
is khule jhooT ko, zahn4 ki looT ko
maiN nahiN maanta maiN nahiN jaanta1. cup, goblet (of wine) 2. revelers 3. tears 4. mind
You say that flowers are blooming in the garden, you say that revelers are getting their fill of wine, you say that rent collars are being sewn up – but I don’t believe these lies, I don’t believe this deception.
tum ne looTa hai sadiyauN1 hamaara sukooN2
ab na hum par chalega tumhaara fusooN3
chaaragar4 dardmandauN5 ke bante ho kyuN
tum nahiN chaaragar koii maane magar
maiN nahiN maanta maiN nahiN jaanta1. centuries 2. comfort, peace 3. magic 4. healer, saviour 5. afflicted with pain
For centuries you have robbed us of our livelihood. Your deception will no longer work on us. Why do you pretend to be saviours of the afflicted. Maybe someone might think of you as a saviour, but I certainly don’t believe it, don’t accept it.
