ہزار  رنگ ملے اک سُبو  کی گردش  میں
ہزار  پیراہن آئے گئے زمانے میں

 

مگر وہ صندل و گل کا غبار، مشتِ بہار
ہواہے وادیِ جنّت نِشاں میں آوارہ

 

اَزل كے ہاتھ سے چُھوٹَا ہوا حیات کا تیر
وہ شش جہت کااسیر
نکل گیاہے بہت دور جستجو بن کر

हज़ार रंग मिले एक सुबू की गरदिश में

हज़ार पैरहन आए गये ज़माने में

 

मगर वो संदल ओ गुल का ग़ुबार मुश्त-ए बहार

हुवा है वादी-ए जन्नत निशां में आवारा

 

अज़ल के हाथ से छूट हुआ हयात का तीर

वो शश जहत का असीर

निकल गया है बहुत दूर जुस्तजू बन कर

…. but those ashes of sandalwood and roses, that fistful of freshness is now dispersed in this country that is the image of heaven. Nehru was cremated in sandalwood with roses piled on the corpse. Thus his ashes are often referred to as the ashes of sandal and rose. His ashes were dispersed all over the country by air and also into many rivers north and south. He wanted his dust to mingle back into the dust of the country.

Such a fast moving Life, straight as an arrow comes but once in an eternity. He was bound only by the six directions (not by religion, region or language). “Six directions” may be intepreted as universalism. Bound only by the idealistic universalism, he has gone far ahead of the rest like an embodiment of perseverance. Nehru was also known as a universalist/idealist, refusing to be bound by language, region or religion. He was only bound/circumscribed by his universalism.
