خبر تو ہوگی تجھے تیرے جاں نثاروں میں

کوئی تو تھا سرِ مقتل جو پیش و پس میں نہ تھا

سرورؔ اپنے چمن کی فضا ہے کیا کہئے

سکوت کا تو وہ عالم ہے جو قفس میں نہ تھا

यही नहीं के मेरा दिल ही मेरे बस में न था

जो तू मिला तो मैं ख़ुद अपनी दस्तरस में न था

ब-नाम-ए-अहद-ए-रिफ़ाक़त भी हम-क़दम न हुआ

ये हौसला मेरे मासूम हम-नफ़स में न था

अजीब सेहर का आलम था उस की क़ुर्बत में

वो मेरे पास था और मेरी दस्तरस में न था

न जाने क़ाफ़िला-ए-अहल-ए-दिल पे क्या गुज़री

ये इज़्तेराब कभी नाला-ए-जरस में न था

ख़बर तो होगी तुझे तेरे जाँ-निसारों में

कोई तो था सर-ए-मक़्तल जो पेश-ओ-पस में न था

सुरूर अपने चमन की फ़िज़ा है क्या कहिए

सुकूत का तो वो आलम है जो क़फ़स में न था

It was not just that I lost control of my heart when I found you, I aso was not sure if I was within my own reach/control. The poet/lover/revolutionary surrenders body and soul to the beloved or to the cause.

The poet/lover/revolutionary felt an exhilarating sense of enchantment when he was he was close to the beloved. She was near, yet he could not quite reach her. Of course, this could be conventional romantic beloved or a socialist system.

koi to tha sar-e maqtal3 jo pesh-o-pas4 meN na tha

Surely you must be aware that among your lovers there was at least one at the hangman’s ready to lay down his life for you. The beloved is social justice and the ready lover is the poet.

suroor apne chaman ki faza1 hai kya kahiye
sukoot2 ka to vo aalam3 hai jo qafas4 meN na tha
1.atmosphere, conditions 2.calm, quiet 3.condition 4.cage
The country is the chaman/garden and song birds are poets/revolutionaries. In the garden there is calm, no one is singing songs of protest. It is even more quiet than it used to be in the cage.
