صرفِ  نگاہ وآہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

فردِ عمل سیاہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں
رحمت کو بے پناہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

ایسی بھی ایک نگاہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں
ذرّوں کو مہر وماہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

مجھ سے لگے ہیں عشق کی عظمت کو چار چاند
خود حسن کو گواہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

دفتر ہے ایک معنی بے لفظ و صوت کا
سادہ سی جو نگاہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

آگے قدم بڑھائیں جِنھیں سوجھتا نہیں
روشن چراغِ  راہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

معصومیِ جمال کو بھی جن پہ رشک ہے
ایسے بھی کچھ گناہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

تنقیدِ حُسن مصلحتِ خاصِ عشق ہے
یہ جرم گاہ گاہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

اٹھتی نہیں ہے آنکھ مگر اُس کے رو بہ رو
نا دیدہ اِک نگاہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

گُلشن پرست ہوں مجھے گُل ہی نہیں عزیز
کانٹوں سے بھی نبِاہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

یوں زندگی گذار رہا ہوں تیرے بغیر
جیسے کوئی گناہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

مجھ سے ادا ہوا ہے جگرؔ جستجو کا حق
ہر ذرّے کو گواہ کئے جا رہا ہوں میں

गुनाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं – जिगर मोरदाबादी

दिल में किसी के राह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

कितना हसीं गुनाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

दुनिया-ए दिल तबाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

सर्फ़-ए निगाह-ओ-आह  किए जा रहा हूं  मैं

फ़र्द-ए अमल सियाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

रहमत को बे-पनाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

ऐसी भी एक निगाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

ज़र्रों को मेहर-ओ-माह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

मुझ से लगे हैं इश्क़ की अज़्मत को चार चाँद

ख़ुद हुस्न को गवाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

दफ़्तर है एक मानी-ए बे- लफ़्ज़ ओ सौत का

सादा सी जो निगाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

आगे क़दम बढ़ाएं जिन्हें सूझता नहीं

रौशन चराग़-ए राह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

मासूमी-ए जमाल को भी जिन पे रश्क है

ऐसे भी कुछ गुनाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

तन्क़ीद-ए हुस्न मस्लहत-ए ख़ास-ए इश्क़ है

ये जुर्म गाह गाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

उठती नहीं है आँख मगर उस के रु-बा-रु

ना-दीदा एक निगाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

गुलशन-परस्त हूँ मुझे गुल हे नहीं अज़ीज़

कांटों से भी निबाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

यूं ज़िंदगी गुज़ार रहा हूं तेरे बग़ैर

जैसे कोई गुनाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

मुझ से अदा हुआ है जिगर जूसतुजू का हक़

हर ज़र्रे को गवाह किए जा रहा हूं मैं

1.destroy 2.use, spend 3.eye and sighs
The world of my heart is getting destroyed (but I don’t mind). I keep using (using up/spending) every strategem of looks and sighs that I can use to attract her attention.

fard-e amal1 siyaah2 kiye ja raha huN maiN
rahmat3 ko be-panaah4 kiye ja raha huN maiN   
1.book/catalogue of deeds 2.black, disreputable 3.(divine) benevolence 4.limitless
The poet/lover continues to commit so many excesses that the list gets black (either due to too much writing or in the sense of disrepute). This is causing the need for so much divine benevolence that its limits are tested … it is getting more limitless.

aisi bhi ek nigaah kiye ja raha huN maiN
zarrauN1 ko mahr-o-maah2 kiye ja raha huN maiN
1.particles (of dust) 2.sun and moon
I cast such a (discerning) glance/look that I am able to see the beauty of the sun and moon even in particles of dust.

mujh se lage haiN ishq ki azmat1 ko chaar chaand2
Khud husn ko gavaah3 kiye ja raha huN maiN
1.greatness of love 2.glorious reputation 3.witness
Because of me the greatness of Love is acquiring a glorious reputation. Even Beauty (the beloved) is forced to bear witness to (the selflessness/sincerity of) my love.

daftar1 hai ek mu’aani2-e be-lafz o saut3 ka
saada4 si jo nigah kiye ja raha huN maiN

Even my simple glance is like a volume/tome of meaning even though it uses no (written) word or sound.

aage qadam1 baRhaaeN jinheN soojhta2 nahiN
raushan3 charaaGh4-e raah5 kiye ja raha huN maiN
1.step 2.see, discern 3.light up 4.lamp 5.path, way
So that those who cannot see/discern, may step forward, I am lighting up lamps for the pathway i.e. I am showing the path forward (through my poetry).

maasoomi-e jamal1 ko bhi jin pe rashk2 hai
aise bhi kuchh gunaah kiye ja raha huN maiN
1.innocence of looks 2.envy
The poet/lover is committing excesses and making himself look innocent so much so that Innocent Look (personified) is envious of his ability to get away with it.

tanqeed-e husn1 maslahat2-e Khaas3-e ishq hai
ye jurm4 gaah gaah5 kiye ja raha huN maiN
1.criticism of Beauty/beloved 2.intention/privilege 3.special 4.crime, excess 5.occasionally, sometimes
Criticism of the beloved is a very special privilege of Love. Even this crime I sometimes commit (and get away with it). In Sufi spirit this could be interpreted as a loving criticism of god.

uThti nahiN hai aaNkh magar us ke ru-ba-ru1
na-deeda2 ek nigaah kiye ja raha huN maiN
1.face to face 2.without looking
The poet/lover has not been able to raise his eyes towards the beloved even though he is face to face with her. But he has been able to cast a glance without getting observed (or without actually seeing). Again this can be interpreted as being able to “see” god.

kaaNToN se bhi nibaah3 kiye ja raha huN maiN

I love the whole garden, not just flowers. I get along with thorns too.

The life that I spend without you (O beloved) is as if I am committing a sin (doing something that is forbidden).

har zarre4 ko gavaah5 kiye ja raha huN maiN

Every particle of dust bears witness that I have fulfilled the obligation (paid the debt) of search/quest (for Truth/Love).
