तेरे फ़िराक़ में जब भी बहार गुज़्री है

हमें रुला के लहू बार बार गुज़्री है

पनाह ख़ुदा की हसीनों की बद-मिज़ाजी से

मेरी दुआ भी उन्हें नागवार गुज़्री है

तमाम रात सितारों के साथ रोया हूँ

न पूछ कैसे शब-ए इंतेज़ार गुज़्री है

तेरा नसीब अगर तू ने पी नहीं ज़ाहद

बहार वर्ना बड़ी पुर-बहार गुज़्री है

हम अपने दर्द को रोएँ तो किस लिए आख़र

शब-ए फ़िराक़ किसे साज़्गार गुज़्री है

किसी की याद में हम को नरेश तड़पा कर

उठा के हश्र नसीम-ए बहार गुज़्री है

meri dua bhi unheN naagavaar4 guzri hai

My god protect me from the anger of the beloved. Even my prayers/entreaties have offended her.

tamaam1 raat sitaaroN ke saath royaa huuN
na puchh kaise shab2-e intezaar3 guzri hai

All night long have I cried with the stars (were the stars also crying and dew was their tears). Do not ask how spent the night of waiting (for the beloved).

bahaar3 varna4 baRi pur5-bahaar6 guzri hai

Spring is the season of merriment including drinking. O preacher, if you have not tasted wine, then it is your bad luck, otherwise spring has passed full of joy.

Why should I cry for my own sorrow. After all, who has found the night of separation agreeable i.e., no one has. There is nothing special about my suffering. Everyone suffers like this, so there is no justification for me to cry about my own sorrow.

uThaa ke hashr2 nasiim3-e bahaar4 guzri hai
