رات آنکھوں میں کٹی پھر بھی سویرا نہ ہوا

جب سے تم چھوڑ گئے گھر میں اُجالا نہ ہوا

فصلِ گل جھوم کے آئی نہ تو مہکا گلشن

جب تلک تیری محبت کا اِشارہ نہ ہوا

کتنی قربانیاں دیں آپ کی خاطر میں نے

اِس محبّت میں کوئی خواب بھی پورا نہ ہوا

تیری تنہائیوں کا مجھ پہ ہے اِلزام بہت

کیا تیرے بعد کوئی شہر میں رسوا نہ ہوا

جس گلی میں بھی ترے نقشِ قدم اُبھرے تھے

آج تک بھی اُسی کوچے میں اندھیرا نہ ہوا

جب کھلے ذہن سے تم بھی نہ ملے مجھ سے کرنؔ

اِس بھرے شہر میں پھر کوئی بھی میرا نہ ہوا

रात आंखौं में कटी फिर भी सवेरा न हुआ

जब से तुम छोढ गए घर में उजाला न हुआ

फ़स्ल-ए गुल झूम के आई न तो महका गुल्शन

जब तलक तेरी मोहब्बत का इशारा न हुआ

कितनी क़ुर्बानियां दीं आप की ख़ातर मैं ने

इस मोहब्बत में कोई ख़्वाब भी पूरा न हुआ

तेरी तनहाईयौं का मुझ पे है इल्ज़ाम बहुत

क्या तेरे बाद कोई शहर में रुस्वा न हुआ

जिस गली में भी तेरे नक़्श-ए क़दम उभ्रे हैं

आज तक भी उसी कूचे में अंघेरा न हुआ

जब खुले ज़हन से तुम भी न मिले मुझ से किरन

इस भरे शहर में फिर कोई भी मेरा न हुआ

She grew up in an urdu loving atmosphere. Her father, an urdu scholar, had regular musical programs at their house including performance by viTThal rao. She began to compose Ghazal and also took music lessons from him and he introduced her to shaa’er salaahuddin nayyar. He willingly took her on as her shaagird. She has published four collections of her kalaam. This Ghazal is one of two Ghazal of kavita kiran, modeled after Ghalib’s “dard minnat kash-e dava na hua”.

raat aaNkhoN meN kaTi1 phir bhi savera2 na hua
jab se tum chhoR gay ghar meN ujaala3 na hua    
1.passed before my eyes 2.dawn, joy, good tidings 3.brightness
raat aaNkhoN meN kaTna is an expression meaning the whole night passed before my eyes – wide awake. Thus, I spent the whole night awake, even then there was no dawn/joy. Ever since you have left, there hasn’t been light/happiness in this house.

jab talak teri mohabbat ka ishaara3 na hua

Neither has spring arrives nor does the garden burst into fragrance, until the beloved gives some indication of love. Thus, the definition of love changes into blooming of love.

The poet has had to make many sacrifices for the sake of the beloved but in this love non of his/her dreams have been fulfilled.

kya tere baad koii shahr meN rusva3 na hua

I am not sure I get the drift correctly. It seems that the beloved is feeling lonely and left out and blames the poet/lover as if there has not been another one as much shamed and embarrassed as him.

aaj tak bhi usi kooche3 meN andhera na hua
