کہا جس دم جواہر لال نے ۔ باپو نہیں ہم میں

فلک کاںپا ستاروں کی ضیا میں بھی کمی آئی

زمانہ رو اُٹھا دُنیا کی آنکھوں میں نمی آئی

کمر ٹوٹی وطن والوں کی اہلِ دل کے دل ٹوٹے

ہوئے افسردہ باغِ نیکی و خوبی کے گُل بوٹے

ہمیں کیا ہو گیا تھا ہائے یہ کیا ٹھان لی ہم نے

خلوص و آشتی کے دیوتا کی جان لی ہم نے

جو دولت لُٹ چکی افسوس اب واپس نہ آئے گی

ہزاروں سال رو کر بھی اُسے دُنیا نہ پائے گی

یہ اچھی قوم ہے جو قوم کے سردار کو مارے

یہ اچھا دھرم ہے جو دھرم کے اوتار کو مارے

نگاہِ اہلِ عالم میں ملامت کا ہدف ہم ہیں

ہمیں نے قتل باپو کو کیا ہے نا خلف ہم ہیں

ہمیں ہیں مسلکِ مُحسن شناسی چھوڑنے والے

کنارے پر پہنچتے ہی سفینہ توڑنے والے

اُمیدِ قوم کی بنیاد تھی جس ایک بندے پر

غضب ہے گولیاں برسائیں ہم اُس نیک بندے پر

اکیلی جان اُس کی بوجھ دنیا بھر کا سہتی تھی

مگر جو بات کہتا تھا وہ آخر ہو کے رہتی تھی

ہزاروں رحمتیں راہِ خدا میں مرنے والے پر

حسین ابنِ علی کی یاد تازہ کرنے والے پر

कहा जिस दम जवाहर लाल ने “बापू नहीं हम में”

फ़लक कांपा सितारौं की ज़िया में भी कमी आई

ज़माना रो उठा दुनिया कि आंखौं में नमी आई

कमर टूटी वतन वोलौं कि अहल-ए दिल के दिल टूटे

हुए अफ़्सुर्दा बाग़-ए नेकि ओ ख़ूबी के गुल-बूटे

हमें क्या हो गया था हाए ये क्या ठान ली हम ने

ख़ुलूस ओ आश्ति के देवता की जान ली हम ने

जो दौलत लुट गई अफ़्सोस अब वापस न आऐगी

हज़ारौं साल रो कर भी उसे दुनिया न पाऐगी

ये अच्छी क़ौम है जो क़ौम के सरदार को मारे

ये अच्छा धर्म है जो धर्म के अवतार को मारे

निगाह-ए अहल-ए आलम में मलामत का हदफ़ हम हैं

हमीं ने क़त्ल बापू को किया है ना-ख़लफ़ हम हैं

हमीं हैं मस्लक-ए मोहसिन-शिनासी छोड़ने वाले

किनारे पर पहुंच्ते ही सफ़ीना तोड़ने वाले

उमीद-ए क़ौम कि बुनियाद थी जिस एक बन्दे पर

ग़ज़ब है गोलियां बरसाएं हम उस नेक बन्दे पर

अकेली जान उस की बोझ दुनिया भर का सहति थी

मगर जो बात कहता था वो आख़ेर हो के रहती थी

He succeeded josh malihabadi as Editor of ‘aajkal’. Among his works is a thin booklet “aahaNg-e hijaaz” dedicated entirely to n’aat-e mohammadi. He writes with much feeling reaching across communal lines. This nazm is about gandhi’s assasination.
