بیٹھا ہے کون واقفِ دردِ جگر یہاں

ویران کر کے جائے بالآخر، اسی لئے

تو نے بنا لیا تھا ہر اک دل میں گھر یہاں

شاید شفا نسیب میں بیمار کے نہیں

بیٹھا نہ جم کے آہ کوئی چارہ گر یہاں

اپنی طرف سے چھوڑی نہیں تو نے کچھ کسر

قسمت سے سب علاج ہوئے بے اثر یہاں

رکھے اُمید کیا دلِ حسرت نصیب آہ

مایوس جب کہ ہو گئے تجھ سے طبیب آہ

بارش یہاں جب بھی غم و آلام کی رہی

ہم غم زدوں کو آس ترے نام کی رہی

اُن بیکسوں کے غم میں رہا تو بھی بے قرار

جن پر نگاہ گردشِ ایّام کی رہی

تو نے سپر کا کام جو مظلوم کو دیا

ظالم کی تیغِ کیں نہ کسی کام کی رہی

یکساں سلوک ہندو و مسلم سے تھا ترا

کوئی تمیز کفر نہ اسلام کی رہی

ایواں میں تجھ سے لڑتے تھے جو بات بات پر

نالاں کناں ہیں وہ بھی اب تیری وفات پر

बैठा है कौन वाक़फ़-ए दर्द-ए जिगर यहां

वीरान कर के जाए बिलआख़र इसी लिये

तू ने बना लिया था हर एक दिल में घर यहां

शा’एद शिफ़ा नसीब में बीमार के नहीं

बैठा न जम के आह कोई चारागर यहां

अपनी तरफ़ से छोढी नहीं तू ने कुछ कसर

क़िस्मत से सब इलाज हुए बे-असर यहां

रक्खे उमीद क्या दिल-ए हसरत-नसीब आह

मायूस जब के हो गए तुझ से तबीब आह

बारिश यहां जब-भी ग़म ओ आलाम की रही

हम ग़म-ज़दौं को आस तेरे नाम की हुई

उन बेकसौं के ग़म में रहा तू भी बे-क़रार

जिन पर निगाह गरदिश-ए अय्याम की रही

तू ने सिपर का काम जो मज़्लूम को दिया

ज़ालिम की तेग़-ए कीं न किसी काम की रही

यक्सां सुलूक हिन्दु ओ मुस्लिम से था तेरा

कोई तमीज़ कुफ़्र न इस्लाम में रही

He worked as editor of various magazines, but it is not clear if he had any college education, job or lands. He migrated to sonipat, punjab in the middle 1940s. shaagird of tilok chand mahroom. Started composing in 1920, his urge to compose triggered by the jaaliaaNvala baaGh massacre. He wrote patriotic and national nazm with a strong dose of communal harmony. His Ghazal and nazm were published in local magazines, and eventually took the shape of four collections.

baiTha hai kaun vaaqif1-e dard-e-jigar2 yahaaN

‘kisi pe chhoR ke jaana’ is an expression meaning leaving something or someone in the responsibility of. Thus, in whose responsibility are you leaving us i.e., who will take care of us now. Who is here who is familiar with the struggle of life.

The ‘biimaar’ here are the people of India. Perhaps a cure for the ills was not in the fate of the people that is why no healer remained here for long.

qismat se sab ilaaj3 hue be-asar4 yahaaN

On your side, you did not spare any effort, did not leave any stone unturned (did not make an inadequate effort). It is our effort that all cure was ineffective.

How can they keep hoping, those whose hearts are fated to have their yearning not fulfilled; when they face disappointment even with a healer like you.

ham Gham-zadoN3 ko aas4 tere naam ki hui

Whenever sadness and calamities have rained on us, the sorrow-stricken ones have held on to hope in your name.

jin par nigaah3 gardish-e-ayyaam4 ki rahi

You too were restless in the sorrow of the helpless who were (in the eyes of) the target of the vicissitudes of time.

You who handed the oppressed a shield to defend themselves, made the oppressors’ spiteful sword ineffective.
