گو رات کی جبیں سے سیاہی نہ دھل سکی

لیکن مرا چراغ برابر جلا کیا

جس سے دلوں میں اب بھی حرارت کی ہے نمود

برسوں مری لحد سے وہ شعلہ اٹھا کیا

پھیکا ہے جس کے سامنے عکسِ جمالِ یار

عزمِ جواں کو میں نے وہ غازہ عطا کیا

میرے لہو کی بوند میں غلطاں تھیں بجلیاں

خاکِ دکن کو میں نے شرر آشنا کیا

ساحل کی آنکھ میں مگر آئی نہ کچھ کمی

دریا میں لاکھ لاکھ تلاطم ہوا کیا

خواب گراں سے غنچوں کی آنکھیں نہ کھل سکیں

گو شاخِ گل سے نغمہ برابر اٹھا کیا

یہ بزم ایسی سوئی کہ جاگی نہ آج تک

فطرت کا کارواں ہے کہ آگے بڑھا کیا

مارا ہوا ہوں گو خلشِ اِنتظار کا

مشتاق آج بھی ہوں پیامِ بہار کا

टीपू की आवाज़ – आल-ए अहमद सुरूर

गो रात की जबीं से सियाही न धुल सकी

लेकिन मेरा चराग़ बराबर जला किया

जिस से दिलों में अब भी हरारत की है नुमूद

बरसों मेरी लहद से वो शो’ला उठा किया

फीका है जिस के सामने अक्स-ए जमाल-ए यार

अज़्म-ए जवाँ को मैं ने वो ग़ाज़ा अता किया

मेरे लहू की बूँद में ग़लताँ थीं बिजलियाँ

ख़ाक-ए दकन को मैं ने शरर-आश्ना किया

साहिल की आँख में मगर आई न कुछ कमी

दर्या में लाख लाख तलातुम हुआ किया

ख़्वाब-ए गिराँ से ग़ुंचों की आँखें न खुल सकीं

गो शाख़-ए गुल से नग़्मा बराबर उठा किया

ये बज़्म ऐसी सोई के जागी न आज तक

फ़ितरत का कारवाँ है के आगे बढ़ा किया

मारा हुआ हूँ गो ख़लिश-ए इंतेज़ार का

मुश्ताक़ आज भी हूँ पयाम-ए बहार का

Even though the darkness on the brow of the night has not been washed out, my lamp continues to burn and light up the dark night.

jis se diloN meN ab bhi haraarat1 ki hai numood2
barsoN3 meri lahad4 se vo sho’la5 uTha kiya

For many years now the flame that rises from my grave has emerged as an expression of passion from young hearts.

phiika1 hai jis ke saamne aks2-e jamaal3-e yaar4
azm5-e javaaN6 ko maiN ne vo Ghaaza7 ata8 kiya   
1.pale, dull 2.image 3.beauty, glory 4.beloved 5.resolve, determination 6.youthful, vigorous 7.rouge, face make-up, brilliance 8.grant
I have granted such a brilliance to the face of youthful determination that before this the beauty of the beloved goes pale.

mere lahu1 ki buuNd2 meN GhaltaaN3 thiiN bijliyaaN4
Khaak5-e dakan ko maiN ne sharar-aashna6 kiya   
1.blood 2.drop 3.rolling in 4.lightning 5.soil, land 6.familiar with sparks (of energy)
Flashes of lightning rolled in every drop of my blood. I granted sparks of energy to the land of the dakkan.

saahil1 ki aaNkh2 meN magar aaii na kuchh kami
dariya3 meN laakh laakh talaatum4 hua kiya    
1.shore 2.eyes, sight, vision 3.sea 4.disturbance, storm
Even though many storms rose from the sea, there was no reduction in the vision from the shores (I could see my goal through the storms).

Khwaab-e-giraaN1 se GhunchoN2 ki aaNkheN na khul sakiN
go3 shaaKh-e-gul4 se naGhma5 baraabar uTha kiya

The unopened flower buds did not awake from their deep sleep even though songs rose from the flower laden bough constantly i.e., I called all of India to resist British rule but they did not wake up to reality.

ye bazm1 aisi soi keh jaagi na aaj tak
fitrat2 ka kaarvaaN3 hai keh aage baRha kiya  
1.gathering, society, homeland 2.nature 3.caravan
The homeland slept such a sleep that it has not woken up to this day even though the caravan of nature (the world) has moved forward.

maara hua huN go1 Khalish2-e intezaar3 ka
mushtaaq4 aaj bhi huN payaam5-e bahaar6 ka  
1.even though 2.pain, anxiety 3.waiting, anticipating 4.eager 5.message 6.spring
Even though I have been killed by the anxiety of waiting (for the end of colonialism), I am to this day eager for the message/news of the arrival of spring.
