His father was a scholar of urdu and faarsi and grandfather (tulsidas) was also an urdu shaa’er. Ill-treatment by his step-mother drove him to seclusion and reading. All the books at home including religious texts were in urdu. He read up all of them and learnt to write too. Interest in shaa’eri started from childhood. In college he was class fellow of jagan nath azad and through him became a disciple of tilok chand mahroom. Continued education incluing Public Service Commission exam. Worked for the government of panjab and later haryana, retiring in 1974. At least 10 collections of his shaa’eri including Ghazal, rubaaii and nazm. He has several Ghazal in the style of Ghalib.

The shaa’er seeks some way of consoling himself. If nothing else, at least the tale of the sorrow of his love.

Life may be difficult but let us get through it joyfully.

Normally, the garden blooms in spring with red roses. But for whatever reason there has been no bloom this time. The shaa’er has an alternative … if not the redness of roses, let it be the redness of the blood of martyrs. It is left for us to decide whether ‘spring’ is freedom/independence and these are martyrs in the freedom struggle.

At least there is a little movement in some direction, even if it amounts to no more than wandering aimlessly on the path of love.

dosti ki nahiN taufeeq1 to phir
dosto mujh se adaavat2 hi sahi 1.divine guidance, ability 2.enmity, rivalry
The poet does not want to be ignored. If his friends do not have the ability or divine guidance to fulfil the obligations of friendship then it is quite all right for them to entertain thoughts of enmity. At least some kind of a relationship will be maintained.

haq-pasandoN1 ko jo aaii hai pasand2
talKhi3-e zahr4-e sadaaqat5 hi sahi 1.truth lovers 2.like, prefer 3.bitterness 4.poison 5.truth
This has faint echoes of the story of Socrates who drank hemlock rather than renounce his statements. The shaa’er too wants the same bitter poison of truth that truth-lovers like Socrates preferred.

kuchh to ho meri tashaffi ke liye
teri tasviir ki sohbat hi sahi 1.recovery, calmness of mind 2.company
There should be something to keep me calm (not agitated). If I cannot have you (beloved), at least the company of your picture.

dekh leN kuchh to ye aaNkheN yaarab1
manzar2-e subah qayaamat3 his sahi 1.O lord 2.scene 3.doomsday
May my eyes be able to see/witness something, O lord. If nothing else i.e. if I cannot see the beloved, then I will settle for the scene of the dawn of doomsday.

There should be at least some clamour for the reform of outmoded traditions. If nothing else, at least the noise of rebellion.

There should be some benefit of composing/reciting a Ghazal, O maGhmum. If nothing at else then a declaration of my emotions is enough.
