حوصلہ کچھ کم نہیں چشمِ نظارہ باز کا

دَور ہے جوشِ جنونِ عشق کے آغاز کا

اُس طرف ہوں گی زمانے کی نگاہیں روزِ حشر
رُخ جدھر ہوگا تری چشمِ زمانہ ساز کا

Studied through intermediate and then quit college to work for the railways. Started reading his Ghazal in mushaa’era from 1924. There is at least one published collection of his Ghazal, nazm and rubaaii. This Ghazal with the same radeef-qaafiya as Ghalib’s – mahram nahiN hai tu hi navaa-haa-e raaz ka – is linked to Ghalib naqsh-e qadam.

The time of the beginning of the madness of passion is spring. ‘hariim-e naaz’ could be the beloved shooting arrows of her coquettish glance from behind the curtain. It could also be god, looking with pride at his creation. Because it is spring, flowers are blooming, they reflect (along with every grain of sand) the beauty of the beloved or of the creator.

The heart is the most special sheet of music of the harp of life. Why then should its throbbing not be a message of life.

There are millions of lover willing to offer their lives to the coquettish glance of the beloved. The poet is asking for a glance/sign of that same glance towards himself so that he may also offer his life.

The poet/lover’s heart throbs/beats as he thinks about the beloved. In this throbbing he hears her sound … the sound of her footsteps. Is this what is called the climax of passion, he asks.
