پلکوں کی اوٹ، حشر کا ساماں کئے ہوئے

پھر اُٹھ رہی ہے عارضِ پُر نور سے نقاب
نظّارہ و نظر کو پریشاں کئے ہوئے

پھر شام و صبحِ زُلف و رخِ یار ہیں بہم
ایماں کو کفر، کفر کو ایماں کئے ہوئے

پھر حسنِ منفعل متبسّم ہے زیرِ لب
یک قطرہ اشک زینتِ مژگاں کئے ہوئے
कुफ़्र को ईमां किये हुए – जिगर मुरादाबादी

Many of his compositions have been put to music and sung by great singers. This is one of his several Ghazal styled after Ghalib and is linked to Ghalib naqsh-e qadam.

The beloved has resolved once again to conquer hearts and souls, using the screen of her eyelashes as a means of creating great tumult i.e., her sidelong glances create havoc.

Once again, the veil is being lifted off the beloved’s brilliant face, making the scene and the eyes that look at it amazing and amazed.

Once again darkness and light are side by side as reflected in the dark night and brilliant dawn or the beloved’s dark hair and her bright face. Her looks corrupt faith i.e., the lover worships the beloved instead of worshipping god and considers this non-faith to be his faith i.e., worshipping the beloved has become his faith.

The beloved is smiling under her lips (at the torture she has inflicted on the poet/lover) while putting on the looks of remorse by letting one tear-drop adorn her eyelashes.
