غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں ۔ جئے کرشن جودھری حبیبؔ

دنیا سے بے نیاز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

قلب و جگر نواز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

اے دل ذرا ٹھہر کہ ہیں صحنِ چمن میں وہ

محوِ خرامِ ناز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

چھلکے ترے جمال کی رنگینیاں کچھ اور

اک ایسی دل نواز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

کرتا ہوں بے نقاب رخِ روشنِ حیات

پردہ کشائے راز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

مستی میں تاکہ گزرے میری شامِ زندگی

اے میرے کارساز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

۶

ان نازک انگلیوں سے ذرا مسکرا کے چھیڑ

دھیمے سے کوئی ساز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

ساغر بدست آیا ہے ساقی بہار میں

بس ہو چکی نماز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

اس تیرِ نیم کش کا مزا ہو مجھے عطا

اے چشمِ نیم باز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

تنہائیوں میں رات کی یادِ حبیبؔ نے

چھیڑا ہے دل کا ساز غزل کہہ رہا ہوں میں

ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं – जय क्रिष्ण चौधरी हबीब

दुनिया से बे-नियाज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

क़ल्ब-ओ-जिगर नवाज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

अए दिल ज़रा ठहर कि हैं सेहन-ए चमन में वो

महव-ए ख़िराम-ए नाज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

छलके तेरे जमाल की रंगीनियाँ कुछ और

एक ऐसी दिल-नवाज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

करता हूँ बे-नक़ाब रुख़-ए रौशन-ए हयात

पर्दा-कुशा-ए राज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

मस्ती में ता-के गुज़रे मेरी शाम-ए ज़िंदगी

अए मेरे कारसाज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

इन नाज़ुक उँगलियों से ज़रा मुस्कुरा के छेढ

धीमे से कोई साज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

साग़र-ब-दस्त आया है साक़ी बहार में

बस हो चुकी नमाज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

उस तीर-ए नीम-कश का मज़ा हो मुझे अता

अए चश्म-ए नीम-बाज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

तन्हाइयों में रात की याद-ए हबीब ने

छेढा है दिल का साज़ ग़ज़ल कह रहा हूँ मैं

He was a scholar of sanskrit, English, faarsi and urdu, and was an active participant in the independence struggle, most notably with Khaan abdul Ghaffaar KhaaN. MA from aligaRh and later LLB, law practice 1929. He migrated to India after partition in 1947. IAS – Collector and later Education Secretary. Early retirement in 1960, but recalled later to serve three more years in jabalpur and retired there. In 1969 he served on Ghalib shataabdhi naagarik samiti which organized four ‘tarahi’ mushaa’era over that year and published a book. He composed several Ghazal in the style of Ghalib.

O (wild) heart, wait for a while for she is the garden plot, busy walking gracefully and causing mischief all around and I am busy composing an ode.

chhalke1 tere jamaal2 ki raNginiyaaN kuchh aur
ek aisi dil-navaaz3 Ghazal kah raha huN maiN  
1.overflow 2.glory 3.heart warming
So that your colourful glory may overflow, I am composing such a heart warming Ghazal.

parda-kusha5-e raaz6 Ghazal kah raha huN maiN    
1.unveil, reveal 2.face 3.shining 4.life 5.open/draw/pull away the curtain 6.secret
I unveil the shining face of life. I compose a Ghazal that pulls away the curtain covering the secret of life.

masti meN taa-keh1 guzre2 meri shaam-e zindagi
aye mere kaarsaaz3 Ghazal kah raha huN maiN  
1.so that 2.pass 3.maker, god
So that the evening of my life may pass in pleasurable intoxication, I am composing Ghazal, O my maker.

in naazuk1 uNgliyoN se zara muskura ke chheR
dhiime2 se koi saaz3 Ghazal kah raha huN maiN   
1.delicate 2.softly 3.music
With these delicate fingers begin playing some soft music for I am composing a Ghazal.

saaGhar1 ba-dast2 aaya hai saaqi bahaar3 meN
bas ho chuki namaaz Ghazal kah raha huN maiN    
1.wine cup 2.in hand 3.spring
It is spring and the saaqi approaches bearing a wine cup in her hand. I am done with namaaz, I am composing a Ghazal.

us tiir-e nim-kash1 ka maza ho mujhe ata2
aye chashm3-e nim-baaz4 Ghazal kah raha huN maiN  
1.half-drawn 2.grant 3.eyes 4.half-aimed
The beloved is known for her side-long glances and arrows shot with half-drawn bows i.e., arched brows and fleeting glances. These are particularly effective because the arrows do no penetrate fully … they do not kill, but still cause a lot of pain as they are pulled out. Said Ghalib …
koi mere dil se puchhe tere tiir-e niim-kash ko
ye Khalish kahaaN se hoti jo jigar ke paar hota
Here the poet says, grant me the pleasure of that half-drawn arrow and that sidelong glance, for I am composing a Ghazal.
