سمجھا تھا میں ۔ حسن چشتی
تیرے غم کو حاصلِ کون و مکاں سمجھا تھا میں
بے خودی میں ہر خوشی کو جاوِداں سمجھا تھا میں
برق کی چشمک کو سعیٔ رائیگاں سمجھا تھا میں
چار تنکوں پر بساطِ آشیاں سمجھا تھا میں
اُف یہ محرومی کہ منزل نے دیئے لاکھوں فریب
گردِ راہِ کارواں کو کارواں سمجھا تھا میں
زندگانی اور بھی پامالِ غم ہوتی گئی
وائے نادانی کہ اُن کو مہرباں سمجھا تھا میں
کاش وہ آتے سکونِ قلبِ مُضطرکے لئے
جن کو اپنی زندگی کا رازداں سمجھاتھا میں
انتہائے دوستی بھی دشمنی نکلی حسنؔ
ابتدا میں اِس حقیقت کو کہاں سمجھا تھا میں
समझा था मैं – हसन चिश्ती
तेरे ग़म को हासिल-ए कौन ओ मकां समझा था मैं
बे-ख़ुदी में हर ख़ुशी को जावेदां समझा था मैं
बर्क़ की चश्मक को स’ई-ए राएगां समझा था मैं
चार तिनकों पर बिसात-ए आशियां समझा था मैं
उफ़ ये महरूमी के मंज़िल ने दिए लाखों फ़रेब
गर्द-ए राह-ए कारवां को कारवां समझा था मैं
ज़िंदगानी और भी पामाल-ए ग़म होती गई
वा’ए नादानी के उन को मेहरबां समझा था मैं
काश वो आते सुकून-ए क़ल्ब-ए मुज़्तर के लिए
जिन को अपनी ज़िंदगी का राज़दां समझा था मैं
इंतेहा-ए दोस्ती भी दुश्मनी निकली हसन
इब्तेदा में इस हक़ीक़त को कहां समझा था मैं

The poet/lover is so intoxicated with love of the beloved that he gets himself to believe that this is the essence of all creation and that it is forever. The implication is that nothing is permanent, not even the love of the beloved.

The tenor of thought is that there is something beyond the material world and the relationships/attachments in this world that is more significant and everlasting. In his false confidence the poet had thought nothing of flashes of lightning … just a wasted effort, he thought. He thought that his “four pieces of straw” that he had gathered to make his nest were his domain. It turned out that the flash of lightning burnt it down i.e. nothing is everlasting.

The poet was on the path to his destination along with his caravan. But soon he was outpaced and “left in the dust”. The failure in getting to his destination makes him feel deprived. Along the way he deluded himself into thinking that he was keeping pace with the caravan when all he really saw was the dust of the caravan after it had passed by.

The poet/lover, a simpleton, trusted the beloved and thought that she was kindly inclined towards him. Fie upon my simplicity, he says, I got even more trampled by the pain of love.

jin ko apni zindagi ka raazdaaN5 samjha tha maiN1.I wish 2.comfort 3.heart 4.distressed 5.confidante, sharing pain
The poet/lover had imagined that the beloved shared his pain. He wishes that she had come at this time to comfort his distressed heart.
