Many of his Ghazal, put to music by viTThal rao and others became very popular. His work is a mix of romantic, sufiyaana and religious.

phoolauN ki rut hai ThanDi havaaeN
ab un ki marzi¹ aayeN na aayeN 1.will, willingness
The poet/lover looks longingly at the blooming spring flowers and wishes that she would come but is resigned to her mood/willingness.

un ki jafa¹ ya apni vafaaeN²
kya yaad rakkheN kya bhool jaayeN 1.cruelty 2.remaining faithful
The beloved’s cruelties have been numerous and the poet/lover’s devotion to her has been steadfast in spite of these cruelties. This is too much for him to remember. He can only remember one or the other.

itna bata de Gham dene vaale
aaNsu bahaayeN ya muskuraayeN The beloved has given him much pain. But such pain is also to be valued and treasured. Thus … should the poet/lover feel sorry about the pain or enjoy it.
