کہنے کی باتیں ہیں ۔ رگھویندر راؤ جذبؔ

وہ ہے دوست اور وہ پیارا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں
یہاں کوئی نہیں اپنا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

ملے انساں کو نفس و دل تو اِن سے کام لینا تھا
ہوس کیسی، محبّت کیا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

یہ کہتے ہو کل آئیں گے، پھر اُس پر مُسکراتے ہو
چلو بس جاؤ سمجھا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں
۴
تمہارا عشق اپنا غم، کروں دنیا پہ کیوں ظاہر
تمہیں اِنصاف سے کہنا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں
۵
یہ غم خوار و عزادار آج کچھ ہیں اور کل کچھ ہیں
یہاں کس کو ہے غم کس کا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

مرے قاصد یہ خط ہے اور یہ پیغامِ زبانی ہے
یہ باتیں یاد سب رکھنا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

جو کچھ ہوتا تو اب تک کھل ہی جاتا عقلِ انساں پر
نہ کچھ دنیا نہ کچھ عقبیٰ، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

مجھے اے شیخ جنّت سے نہیں مطلب خدا سے ہے
مجھے معلوم ہے بابا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

محبّت ہو تو فکرِ ماسوا ہو ہی نہیں سکتی
وفائیں کیا، جفائیں کیا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

نہ وہ وعدے کے پورے ہیں نہ ہم ہیں ضبط میں کامل
نتیجہ اِس کا یہ نکلا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

حرم اور بُت کدہ میں کچھ نہیں، جو کچھ ہے دِل میں ہے
میں سب کچھ جذب کہہ دوں گا، یہ سب کہنے کی باتیں ہیں

मोहब्बत हो तो फ़िक्र-ए मासिवा हो ही नहीँ सकती
वफ़ा’एँ क्या, जफ़ा’एँ क्या, ये सब कहने की बातेँ हैँ

He learnt farsi along the way and got was a student of raja ram narsu for farsi and syed maKhdoom husain for urdu and arabi. After completing his ‘munshi faazil’ and getting education in law he practiced in alampur, a small village near kurnool. He translated kannada, telugu and sanskrit poetry into urdu and organized an annual urdu mushaa’era in alampur for 12 years in a row. In this Ghazal, the refrain, “ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN” is used to mean slightly different things, in different ash’aar.

yahaaN koii nahiN apna, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN He is my friend and he is dear to me, all these are mere words. There is no one that really cares for anyone, this is just hypocrisy.

havas2 kaisi, mohabbat kya, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.soul, conscience 2.lust
If humans received a conscience and a heart, they should use it. Why all this dissertation about love and lust, these are mere words. It is better to rely on the heart and soul.

ye kahte ho kal aayeN ge, phir us par muskuraate ho
chalo bas jaao samjha, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN You, O, beloved, promise that you will come tomorrow and you slyly smile. I understand everything, these are mere words.

tumhiN insaaf2 se kahna, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.reveal, show 2.justice, fairness
My love for you, my pain (because of rejection), why should I reveal this to the world. You be fair and tell me, are these things we talk about.

ye Gham-khwaar1 o azadaar2 aaj kuchh haiN aur kal kuchh haiN
yahaaN kis ko hai Gham kis ka, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.sympathizers 2.mourners
All these people/friends showing sympathy, mourning for you are fleeting and changing. Who bears anyone else’s pain, that is simply hypocrisy.

meray qaasid1 ye Khat hai aur ye paiGhaam2-e zabaani3 hai
ye baateN yaad sab rakhna, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.messenger 2.message 3.oral
The poet/lover is sending a letter to the beloved by messenger. On top of that there is an oral message (perhaps too sensitive to write). He cautions the messenger to remember every word, these are important and need to be told.

jo kuchh hota to ab tak khul hi jaata aql-e insaaN par
na kuchh duniya na kuchh uqba1, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.day of judgement, after-life
If there had been something, human mind would have already figured it out. There is no here or hereafter, these are all just meaningless words.

O, shaiKh, I don’t care for heaven, I want to understand/see god. I know man, these are all just words.

mohabbat ho to fikr1-e maasiva2 ho hi nahiN sakti
vafaa’eN3 kya, jafaa’eN4 kya, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.worry 2.used here to mean – future, unknown 3.fealty in love 4.cruelty, unfaithful in love, infidelity
If there is ‘real’ love there is no worry of the future. All talk of fealty and infidelity are unnecessary words.

na vo vaade ke poore haiN na hum haiN zabt1 meN kaamil2
nateeja3 is ka ye nikla, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.self-control 2.perfect 3.result
Neither does she keep her promise, nor am I perfect in self-control (fortitude in bearing her neglect). The result is that all these are mere stories (mere shaa’eri).

haram1 aur but-kade2 meN kuchh nahiN, jo kuchh hai dil meN hai
maiN sab kuchh jazb3 kah duuNga, ye sab kahne ki baateN haiN 1.k’aaba, mosque 2.idol house, temple 3.pen-name of poet
There is nothing in the mosque or temple. Everything is in the heart/love. I am prepared to say everything, these (temple/mosque) are mere words.
