کس کا دل ہے کہ تیرے حسن پہ شیدا نہ ہوا

کون سا سر ہے جسے زلف کا سودا نہ ہوا

دل پہ صدمے سہے، فرقت کی مصیبت جھیلی

ہم پہ اے یار تیرے عشق میں کیا کیا نہ ہوا

بے وفا ہم کہیں تجھ کو تو بیجا کیا ہے

عہد لاکھوں ہوئے پورا کوئی وعدہ نہ ہوا

گردشِ وقت کا یہ بھی ہے اثر اے ساقی

ہاتھ آیا جو کبھی جام تو مینا نہ ہوا

خلشِ عشق سے کیونکر مجھے فرصت ہوتی

دلِ مضطر سے جدا خارِ تمنّا نہ ہوا

دیدۂ تر نے میرے کب نہ اُٹھایا طوفاں

حشر کس روز میری آہ سے برپا نہ ہو

مجھ کو صحت ہوئی افضالِ خدا سے عثمان

شکر صد شکر کہ مِنّت کشِ عیسیٰ نہ ہوا

कौन सा सर है जिसे ज़ुल्फ़ का सौदा न हुआ

दिल पे सद्मे सहे, फ़ुर्क़त की मुसीबत झेली

हम पे अए यार तेरे इश्क़ में क्या क्या न हुआ

बे-वफ़ा हम कहें तुझ को तो बेजा क्या है

अहद लाखौं हुए पूरा कोई वा’दा न हुआ

गर्दिश-ए वक़्त का ये भी है असर अए साक़ी

हाथ आया जो कभी जाम तो मीना न हुआ

ख़लिश-ए इश्क़ से क्यूंकर मुझे फ़ुर्सत होती

दिल-ए मुज़्तर से जुदा ख़ार-ए तमन्ना न हुआ

दीदा-ए तर ने मेरे कब न उठाया तूफ़ां

हश्र किस रोज़ मेरी आह से बर्पा न हुआ

मुझ को सेहत हुई अफ़्ज़ाल-ए ख़ुदा से उस्मान

शुक्र सद शुक्र के मिन्नत-कश-ए ईसा न हुआ

His diivaan was collected and published posthumously in eight fair sized volumes. This Ghazal, one of several that he composed in the style of Ghalib is linked to the series “Ghalib naqsh-e qadam”. This is modeled after Ghalib’s ‘dard minnat-kash-e dava na hua’. He was known to be the richest man in the world at that time and was known to have over a hundred concubines. So, it is a bit amusing to see him write about the cruelty of the beloved.

kis ka dil hai keh tere husn1 pe shaida2 na hua
kaun sa sar hai jise zulf3 ka sauda4 na hua

I had a lot of fun interpreting the second misra, imagining a lot of bald heads that seek hair. I am not sure if the poet intended to use this as a pun. Beyond such fun, the word ‘sar’ has to be interpreted to mean ‘heart and mind’. Thus, whose heart is it that is not an admirer of your beauty. Whose heart/mind is it that is not a passionate lover of your hair.

The heart suffered tragic shocks. I was punished with the pain of separation. O beloved, in love of you, what all did I not have to bear.

ahad3 laakhoN hue poora koii v’aada4 na hua

If I were to call you faithless, why would it be inappropriate. You made thousands of promises, not one was fulfilled.

O saaqi, this too is the effect of bad luck/bad times that when I got hold of a cup/goblet there was no flask.

How could I ever be free of the pain of love. The thorn of longing pricking my heart was never removed from it.

These are rhetorical questions. In my interpretations I put them in the form of statements. My crying eyes always raised a storm. My sigh caused a tumult every day.

Jesus is supposed to have performed miracles, curing the sick and raising the dead back to life. This appears to have been written after the poet recovered from some illness. I recovered my health because of the bounties of god, O osmaan. Thanks, a hundred thanks that I was not obliged to Jesus. I am not sure why he considers being under an obligation to Jesus to be such a bad thing.
