آمدِ فصلِ گُل ہے یہ، حُسنِ نُمو کا جوش ہے
صحنِ چمن میں شاخ شاخ دستِ سمن فروش ہے
۲
تیری صدائے دل فزا، تیری نوائے جاں کشا
تیری ندائے خوش ادا، سازِ بہشتِ گوش ہے
۳
بزمِ نیاز و ناز کیا، محفلِ سوز و ساز کیا
نغمہ دل نواز کیا، بربطِ دل خموش ہے
۴
دہر کے خارزار میں، دشتِ جمالِ یار میں
بار نہیں ہے اور کچھ، سر ہی وبالِ دوش ہے
۵
دام و دِرم جو دے اِسے، رحمتِ حق اُسے ملے
واعظِ خوش کلام بھی، گویا اِرم فروش ہے
۶
عالمِ بے ثبات میں، کارگہِ حیات میں
ہم بھی کبھی تھے نغمہ خواں، اتنا تو ہم کو ہوش ہے

مقتلِ آرزو سہی، مدفنِ جستجو سہی
دل کا نگر اُجڑ کے بھی، مسکنِ صد خروش ہے
۸
فرطِ الم میں کھو گیا، کون سی نیند سو گیا
دل جو خموش ہو گیا، سارا جہاں خموش ہے
۹
ساقیِ بزمِ میکدہ، پھر وہی جام ہو عطا
ساحرِؔ تشنہ آج بھی تیرا نیاز کوش ہے

सहन-ए चमन में शाख़-शाख़ दस्त-ए समन फ़रोश है

तेरी सदा-ए दिल-फ़ज़ा, तेरी नवा-ए जां कुशा
तेरी निदा-ए ख़ुश-अदा, साज़-ए बेहिश्त-ए गोश है

बज़्म-ए नियाज़ ओ नाज़ क्या, महफ़िल-ए सोज़ ओ साज़ क्या
नग़्मा-ए दिल-नवाज़ क्या, बर्बत-ए दिल ख़मोश है

दहर के ख़ार-ज़ार में, दश्त-ए जमाल-ए यार में
बार नहीं है और कुछ, सर ही वबाल-ए दोश है

दाम ओ दिरम जो दे इसे, रहमत-ए हक़ उसे मिले
वा’एज़-ए ख़ुश-कलाम भी, गोया इरम फ़रोश है
६
आलम-ए बे-सबात में, कारगह-ए हयात में
हम भी कभी थे नग़्मा-ख़्वां, इतना तो हम को होश है

मक़्तल-ए आर्ज़ू सही, मद्फ़न-ए जुस्तजू सही
दिल का नगर उजढ के भी, मस्कन-ए सद-ख़रोश है
८
फ़र्त-ए अलम में खो गया, कौन सि नींद सो गया
दिल जो ख़मोश हो गया, सारा जहां ख़मोश है
९
साक़ी-ए बज़्म-ए मयकदा, फिर वही जाम हो अता
साहर-ए तिश्ना आज भी, तेरा नियाज़ कोश है

He was the shaagird of labhuram josh malsiani and specialized in composing in a short bahr/meter. This Ghazal is modeled after Ghalib’s ‘navaa-e sarosh hai’ and can be considered a tribute to the master. I date this at 1947 (150 years of Ghalib’s birth).

It is the arrival of the spring (flowering season) and there is a passion or renewal/rebirth/emergence. On every branch of the garden, the hand of the flower-picker is laid, picking off flowers for sale.

This could be addressed to the saaqi, to the beloved or even to the poet himself (praising his own Ghazal), much like Ghalib’s is “navaa-e sarosh”. Your heart-pleasing voice, soul-stirring call, beautifully delivered words are like heavenly music to the ear.

When the harp of the heart is silenced, then what is use of assembly of admirers offering their hearts to the beloved, or of a gathering of passionate singing, or heart soothing songs. Nothing can help.

baar6 nahiN hai aur kuchh, sar hi vabaal7-e dosh8 hai 1.world 2.field of thorns 3.wilderness, desert 4.glory 5.beloved 6.burden 7.pain, vexation 8.shoulders
In this thorny world, in this wilderness devoid of the image/glory of the beloved, there is nothing else that is a burden greater than the head on the shoulders i.e., life itself is a burden.

Whoever gives him money, receives the divine blessings. It seems as if the sweet-spoken preacher too sells heaven.

It may be the slaughterhouse of desire, the graveyard of all attempts (to get to the beloved), but the barren heart is still the source of much crying.

It is lost in an excess of sorrow. What kind of a sleep/trance/madness is this. The heart has gone quiet/stopped feeling anything and it feels as if the whole world is quiet.
