سوئی ہوئی فضا ہے ستارے ہیں نیم خواب
لیتا ہے کروٹیں سی دل و جاں میں اضطراب

آئینہ آئینے کو دکھاتی ہیں حیرتیں
جلوؤں کے ساتھ میری نظر بھی ہے بے نقاب

یہ بھی تری نظر کی ہیں معجز نمائیاں
غم بھی ہے بے پناہ خوشی بھی ہے بے حساب

تیرے خرامِ ناز کی جب یاد آ گئی
چلنے لگی نسیم چھلکنے لگی شراب

پھر تیرے فیضِ عام کو کیا کہئے اے بہار
کانٹوں کا خون پی کے نکھرتے ہوں جب گلاب

پامال کر چکی ہے اُنہیں زندگی تو کیا
بدلیں گے زندگی کو یہی خانماں خراب

ملتی ہے عشرتوں کو نُمُو حادثات سے
تاریکیوں کی گود میں پلتے ہیں آفتاب

सोई हुई फ़िज़ा है सितारे हैं नीम ख़्वाब
लेता है करवटें सी दिल ओ जां में इज़्तेराब

आईना आईने को दिखाती हैं हैरतें
जल्वौं के साथ मेरी नज़र भी है बेनक़ाब

ये भी तेरी नज़र की हैं मोजीज़ नुमाईयां
ग़म भी है बेपनाह ख़ुशी भी है बेहिसाब

तेरे ख़ीराम-ए नाज़ कि जब याद आ गई
चलने लगी नसीम छलकने लगी शराब

फिर तेरे फ़ैज़-ए आम को क्या कहिये अए बहार
कांटौं का ख़ून पी के निखरते हों जब गुलाब

पामाल कर चुकी है उन्हें ज़ीन्दगी तो क्या
बदलेंगे ज़िन्दगी को यही ख़ानुमां ख़राब

मिलती है इश्रतौं को नुमू हादसात से
तारीकियौं कि गोद में पलते हैं आफ़्ताब

अए आलम-ए सुकूत ज़रा इन्तेज़ार कर
हर सम्त गूंजने को है आहंग-ए इन्क़ेलाब

leta hai karvaTeN si dil o jaaN meN izteraab3 1.atmosphere 2.half-asleep, sleepy, dozing 3.restlessness, eagerness
The atmosphere is calm and quiet, stars are dozing (the political conditions appear static and quiet) but in the heart and soul eagerness (for change/revolution) is tossing and turning.

aaiina aaine ko dikhaati haiN hairateN1
jalvoN2 ke saath meri nazar3 bhi hai be-naqaab4 1.amazement, wonder 2.manifestations, sighting 3.sight, eyes 4.unmasked, open, emboldened
hairateN/amazement/wonder is probably the image of the socialist revolution and its message of hope. The mirror of the heart reflects that image back and forth. My eyes too are emboldened to see/envision that image.

ye bhi teri nazar ki haiN mo’jiz1 numaaiiyaaN2
Gham bhi hai be-panaah3, Khushi bhi hai be-hisaab4 1.miracles, wonders 2.display 3.without bounds 4.unlimited
The ‘teri’ here is the beloved which is itself a stand-in for the hopes of a socialist order. The miracles of this order make us aware of our present day unbounded misery while at the same time showing a future of unlimited happiness. How naïve and hopeful!

tere Khiraam-e-naaz1 ki jab yaad aa gayii
chalne lagi naseem2, chhalakne lagi sharaab 1.elegant/stylish gait 2.fragrant breeze
Again ‘tere’ is the beloved/socialist revolution. When the poet/revolutionary envisions the elegant style in which it will arrive, he feels as if a fresh, fragrant morning breeze is blowing and cups of wine overflow.

phir tere faiz-e-aam1 ko kya kahiya aye bahaar
kaaNToN ka Khoon pii ke nikharte2 hoN jab gulaab 1.benevolence/kindness to all 2.become fresh, bloom
‘kaaNTe’ are the deprived masses and ‘gulab’ are the privileged class. Spring is supposed to be benevolent equally to all. What can I say about your benevolence O spring, when the privileged classes suck the blood of the deprived to bloom and thrive.

badleNge zindagi ko yahi KhaanumaN-Kharaab2 1.downtrodden 2.homes destroyed, unfortunate, miserable
So what if life has walked over the trampled them down. It is these very miserable people who will rise up and change life (the capitalist/feudal order).

taarikiyoN4 ki goad5 meN palte haiN aaftaab5 1.happiness 2.emergence, increase 3.accidents, calamities 4.darkness 5.lap 5.sun
Happiness increases by overcoming calamities. Brilliant suns are nurtured in the lap of darkness. Today’s misery will nurture a socialist revolution.

har samt3 goonjne ko hai aahaNg4-e inqelaab5 1.quiet/unchanging conditions 2.wait 3.direction 4.melody 5.revolution
O peaceful world, just wait for a bit. The melody of revolution is going to echo from every direction.
