آج کی رات تو سونے کی نہیں ہے جاناں

آج کی رات ہے تجدیدِ ملاقات کی رات

العطش کہتے ہوئے جسم کی

پیہم آواز

الاماں کہتی ہوئی روح کی

بے چین صدا

تیز بارش کی دعاؤں میں تجھے یاد کئے

ایک مُدّت سے لئے بوجھ دلِ خستہ پر

تیری خواہش کا، ترے قرب کی آسائش کا

ساتھ دیکھے ہوئے خوابوں کا نشہ آنکھوں میں

رات کے ہاتھ میں کیا ہاتھ دیا ہے دِل نے

پاؤں پڑتے ہی نہیں جیسے زمیں پر اُس کے

روشنی کیسی رگ و پے میں اُتر آئی ہے

دور تک صرف تیری شکل نظر آتی ہے

میرے ہاتھوں میں تیرے چہرے کا بے داغ کنول

تازہ بارش میں تو کچھ اور کھِلا جاتا ہے

میری آنکھیں

تیرے ہونٹوں کی نمی سے سرشار

ساری دنیا سے چھُپائے

تیری باہوں کا حصار

ذہن میں گھومتا ہے پہلے پہل کا ملنا

اور پھر رنگِ ملاقات کا گہرا ہونا

اور پھر ملنے کی خواہش کا سمندر ہونا

دھیرے دھیرے

کسی تصویر کے ٹکڑے ملنا

جس کی ترتیب نے دو روحوں کا سمبندھ کیا

اور یہ سچ ہے

کہ حیرت کدۂ ہستی میں

ایک پہچان کا لمحہ بھی بہت ہوتا ہے

ہم پہ اِس لمحے کا کچھ قرض ہے باقی اب تک

تن میں تن جذب کریں

روح میں روح سموئیں

کہ یہ ساعت ہے تشکر کے لئے

ریگِ صحرا پہ اُتر آئی ہے برسات کی رات

آج کی رات ہے تجدیدِ ملاقات کی رات

अलअतश कहते हुए जिस्म की

पैहम आवाज़

अलअमां कहती हुई रूह कि

बेचैन सदा

तेज़ बारिश की दुआऔं में तुझे याद किए

एक मुद्दत से लिए बोझ दिल-ए ख़स्ता पर

तेरी ख़्वाहश का तेरे क़ुर्ब कि आसाएश का

साथ देखे हुए ख़्वाबौं का नशा आंखौं में

रात के हाथ में क्या हाथ दिया है दिल ने

पाऊं पढते हि नहीं जैसे ज़मीं पर उस के

रौशनी कैसी रग ओ पै में उतर आई है

दूर तक सिर्फ़ तेरी शक्ल नज़र आती है

मेरे हाथौं में तेरे चेहरे का बेदाग़ कंवल

ताज़ा बारिश में तो कुछ और खिला जाता है

मेरी आंखें

तेरे होंटौं कि नमी से सरशार

सारी दुनिया से छुपाए

तेरी बाहौं का हिसार

ज़हन में घूमता है पहले पहल का मिलना

और फिर रंग-ए मुलाक़ात का गहरा होना

और फिर मिलने की ख़्वाहश का समंदर होना

धीरे धीरे

किसी तस्वीर के टुक्ड़े मिलना

जिस की तरतीब ने दो रूहौं का संबंध किया

और ये सच है

के हैरत-कदा-ए हस्ती में

एक पहचान का लम्हा भी बहुत होता है

हम पे इस लम्हे का कुछ क़र्ज़ है बाक़ी अब तक

तन में तन जज़्ब करें

रूह में रूह समोएं

के ये साअत है तशक्कुर के लिए

रेग-ए सहरा पे उतर आई है बरसात कि रात

आज कि रात है तज्दीद-ए मुलाक़ात कि रात

O, beloved, tonight is not a night to sleep. Tonight, is the night of re-affirmation of our meeting/union. It is a repeated cry of the thirst of our bodies. It is a restless cry of the soul, seeking refuge.

My heart has given its hand in the hand of the night i.e. I have invested a lot, I hold high hopes for this night. I have invested all my memories when I have remembered you during rains and carried that weight on my broken heart. I have invested my desire to feel pleasure in being close to you. I have carried in my eyes the intoxication of dreams we have dreamt together.

It is as if his feet do not touch the ground – he floats on air/walks on water. In anticipation of this night, light has descended into every fibre and muscle of my body. All I see is your face, as far as I can see. Your ublemished face like a lotus in my hands blossoms even more in this fresh rainfall.

aur phir raNg-e mulaaqaat ka gahra hona
aur phir milne ki Khwaahish ka samandar hona

The image emerges in my mind, of that first meeting. And then the colour/nature of the meeting deepened. And then the desire to meet became like the ocean – vast and deep.
