‘magar’, literally ‘but’ is used here rhetorically to mean ‘except for’. The hustle and bustle is the same, the crowds of men and women are the same, except for him who was the comfort of our lives, the harbinger of heaven in our homeland. It is the same earth, the same times, the same people, the same homeland but that joy of one-ness, the pleasure of togetherness is gone.
